Help harvesting

Hello all,

I have a question concerning harvest. I am growing 3 GHS "The Church" in a DWC under a 600W HPS in a 4X4 closet. The problem is that the plants have taken over the closet and the top of the buds have red hairs and the bottom of the same bud is still white hairs. Im sure this is due to the top getting more light due to the heavy canopy of foliage. I am in week 8 and will flush in week 9, what should I do? Should I take the buds that are done or leave them till all hairs are changing? The trichomes on the top are still 80% clear.

Check your temps at the canopy heat from hps can dry or burn colas that get too close to the bulb. Good luck

IMO pistils don't really tell the whole story, it's all about the trichomes. I've been staring at sugar leaves under a scope for the last few days. Amazing how quickly they come around in the last few days finishing. I take my entire plant at once and can't tell a difference in the finished product on what part of the plant the bud came from. Finishing times vary depending on strain, sativas take longer... I don't cut down anything before 56 days, at least the strains I've been running. Good news is you are close to finishing. Now all that's left is the cure. Good luck!

You know, I was also wondering, how do I know how much my trichomes will change during the final flush? I plan on a 10 day flush, 7 days clean water with a flora kleen flush on day 7 and another 3 days of clean water. Right now the trichomes are ohhhh, i'de say 80% clear and 10% cloudy. Yet I am looking for that 90% cloudy 10% amber look. If I was to start flush today, do you think I would achieve that look by day 10 or should I wait a little while longer? Could I in theory ripen to desired trichome color during final flush and take fruits when they are to my likings or.......I don't know, what do you think? And one other thing while I got your ear, any advice on AN carbo load during flush? yea or nay?

What has made you think you have to flush? I've never really understood why people starve their plants of food during the final two weeks which is arguably the most important time.

I always find myself asking this exact question.

If I don't need the room immediately, I often harvest the buds that are done, usually the tops, leaving the rest to ripen up. I know a lot of people swear by flushing, but I don't do that either. I've been doing this a long time, and never seen any advantage to it.

Well, the way I see it, if its the last week of flower, the plant has more than enough nutrients stored to make it through. I figure any added or additional nutrients would just be a waste. And with 9 out of 10 people claiming the benefit of flushing, I see no downside. And at the same time saving myself a weeks worth of nutrients. I'm new to the indoor hydro grow and try to do my research, and as for flushing, at this point in my experience level, I generally lean towards the majority. Not jumping off a cliff with them but most defiantly listening and most likely, taking their advice. Although I will probably still flush, I am quite grateful for your input, thank you.

I don't really have an answer for you. I don't necessarily flush my grows anymore. Look at the trics at day 56, then 60, then 63. Most should be done by now, but some sativa's can go quite a bit longer. Just remember, it's a plant, so you should always have a harvest window. I don't get as technical as I used to, she will tell you when she's done. Dry it slowly, jar it and smoke it. I've noticed that 90% of the taste/smell is genetics. I've grown several strains at the same time with the same medium and nutes and some strains just plain suck and others are dank.

This old debate. All I will say on this is two things.

1. I don't give my plants any nutrients after week 6.

2. If and when you actually donate to medical clubs they often have a questionnaire about the product. One question is "How long do you flush your plants?"

After telling a club owner that although I'm not entirely sure on all of my strains its always at least 2 weeks of flush. He says, "That's legit, we put that question on here to weed out the riff raff. People who don't flush their plants, don't care about their product's quality, just the yield."
