I wouldnt put too much faith in Superthrive. We'll take the guy who got me growing for example. I was in the growroom hands on under his "tutelage". Superthrive was one thing he swore by. Along with every other magic potion the growshop and I'm thinking grassshitty told him he HAD to have. As far as the other goodies you threw in there I have no clue. Never personally used them. I can tell you I've done side by side with him from clones. Superthrive made no difference whatsoever.

Oh I'm not bashing perlite. I loves me some perlite. Gotta have that drainage. I actually start seedlings in stuff I get from Dollar General. It's a soiless seed starting mix. Comes in half gallon bags for like a buck. I can't think of the brand name right off the bat. Have links for it on my laptop but its on the fritz atm due to puppy vs charger cord. They stock it every year though and its neural. Used some stuff called Majestic Earth as well. It's like 5$ for a 2ft bale. Which btw is AWESOME for ammending holes with out in the bush on top of being cost effective. Add some lime like you would sunshine mix and it works perfectly. Has a good amount of perlite in it as well.

You are correct in that the kelp molasses and superthrive technique was taken from an Internet search I did for starting old seeds.
If it came from a university I'd like a link. If it came from a pot forum, forget it. Having said that, I see no scientific value in using that stuff.

Unless the seeds were stored in an air tight container cold, I doubt if they will be viable.

"A fool and his money are soon departed."

Here's the skinny on Vit. B-1 (Superthrive), kelp and all that other snake oil crap. http://puyallup.wsu.edu/~Linda Chalker-Scott/Horticultural Myths_files/index.html

Super thrive has its place. For the most part a plant never needs it. I have a small bottle. The only time it is ever used is on sick plants or a transplant that goes wrong.

Plants will heal on their own. I find a drop in a gallon of water reduces the time to recover from shock.

That foot root is called a radicle. If it dies there's something going on, probably pythium rot.

Sorry to sound crass but that link is to some of the dumbest (but typical) drills I have read in a pot forum. Seek advice from a university link, NOT from another lame pot forum!

If you don't get results using my method then it's not meant to be.

good luck

Back in my college days, I was part of a careful study on "Superthrive" on various Annuals/Perennials on both Greenhouse settings and container grown stock outdoors. This wasn't some half-assed, highly speculative study conducted by "dude", it was tons of counting, measuring and data collection over a period of 6 mos. I personally measured chrysanthemums, dianthus and hemerocallis until I literally saw them in my dreams. The studies conclusion? Zero effect on plant yields from fruit or flower, vegetative growth, root development, stoloniferous growth, rhizatomous growth, radicle dev., cytokinins synthesizing etc. etc. Nada, nothing vs. the controls groups. Some may say " You didn't test it on cannabis right.?" No, it was not. But it would take a tremendous leap of faith (at least on my part) to assume there is something unique about cannabis that enables it to make use of this product when dozens of other plants quite clearly do not.

Can someone take this old dog behind the shed and finally put a bullet in it.? It is snake oil plain and simple. End of story..

I got a bit excited I'll admit. Maybe jumped the gun a little. We will see if they grow. You are correct in that the kelp molasses and superthrive technique was taken from an Internet search I did for starting old seeds.

And I am relatively new to this having only two grows in 40 years. I have grown lots of veggies however.

OBTW...I wasn't trying to claim any technique as my own by name dropping. Next time I'll be more diligent to link to the source. You sound offended. Sorry about that. No offense intended.
not offended, its hard to convey my emotion and tone in written words :)
I just dont like people spreading misinformation is all.
the name dropping is fine lol its just what newer growers do to sound like they know more than they do.
dont sweat it bro you cant "own" a technique lol but it is nice to give credit where its due.

any pics?

I stuck the seeds in starter cubes. No pics of the seeds I thought were popping unfortunately.
If they grow I will definitely post up.

My next try I will Uncle Ben's recommendations.
If that doesn't go I'm considering slicing the shell off a bit at the seam before soaking.

I wouldn't say its for everyday use. Actually it can be bad for them. I very rarely use it. I've used it mainly for certain plants during transplant.

Like peace lilies. They hate transplanting. They hate being cut apart to make more plants. I use it when I do things like that.

My very first grow did not go well. I germed and planted all the seeds i had bought and promptly killed all the seedlings. So...a friend of mine gave me a baggie full of seeds he had kicking around since the 80s. I gave em a shot since i was all set up to go anyway. 8 out of 12 cracked and i got five girls that a grew out into a half pound of damned good smoke. Had i known what the hell i was doing i am sure i would've yielded a lot more.

I still have a shitload of those 80s seeds and now that i know what im doing im going to give a bunch another go...

Awesome Project !~ I just germinated a few of my own seeds, Midnight Nectar- (Afghani x Durga Mata II). Such an awesome feeling to be the proud daddy of some healthy seedlings from seeds YOU created. 100% germination, 24 hrs 8)DSCN0890.JPG

How did you get the older seeds to pop?
