I have a few acres it's all wooded except for an acre around my house. When I bought my house there were trees every were evey ft was a tree so i cut down prob 150 trees and etc as well as dug up the stumps. My yard is pretty low now and my yard floods badly. I would need several 100 yards to put in yard to raise my ground. My thought is would wood chips be any better for the cheaper route or no. I would then of course put dirt on top. What's yall opinions

Your better off using soil as fill , I've been where your at , I cleared 6 acres at our country house & made a swamp .

The big question is where are you gonna divert the water to when you backfill ?
Well there like a small 1ft or so ditch that runs and separate me and my neighbors property as it originally was but from all the equipment hols etc my yard is now of course to low. So ok fill dirt is the way I'll go. what did you do for grass sod seed

A lot of times you can get free fill dirt from construction sites and such. See it on craigslist. Use that to fill majority and put a thin layer of decent top soil on top for the grass seed to take to.
Yes your right but getting 100+plus yards with a shovel is is no good as most things I see say you have to haul and load it yourself but I agree I do keep an eye for those listings

Sounds like you have a place for the water to go , my situation wasn't as simple as seeding or sodding , I ended up putting in a 3 acre pond & had to divert yard run off from the pond , we had to build a swail leading to the culvert , them burm'd three sides of the property .

After meeting grade I had hydro seed sprayed on the entire area .

Did that hydro seeder deal work. I have looked into it before bit could not find out much about them. Does the hydro keep weeds to a minimal or not really

I've used hydro seeding literally thousands of times when I was in construction , hydro seed is nothing more than seed encapsulated in cellulose material , dyed green then sprayed from a truck , weed prevention is as with any lawn .

Free construction site fill dirt you don't want unless you want the added work of removing stumps , roots , bricks , concrete etc .

Proper fill isn't that expensive when you buy direct from the pit & have them use gravel trains to haul it all in one big load .

Agreed. Hopefully you'll get lucky and find someone willing to haul it in for free/cheap. If they want rid of it bad enough they may work with ya. You'd still have to rent a tractor or something to move it around but probably cheaper than buying all that soil. Just a thought.

i know i said, im English and never heard anyone say " im a build me a god damn swamp" lol
Oh the swamp building wasn't on purpose , when we deforested the land & pulled all the stumps I got the same results as the op , a mush pit swamp .

My wife was like great job dick head , we had beautiful trees now we got a mosquito infested swamp , fix it now !

Now she loves the pond & watchin the grand kids catch fish outta it & they make lunch .
