Question.

how high should I keep my 400w MH from the dome?

temp is a big factor around 25c but as a general rule?

For clones I'd be keeping it as high as possible until you see roots. Generally 6000k and higher fluros work best for clones as they don't require a lot of light to grow roots.
For seeds, don't use a dome and keep the light about 10-12 inches above.

General rule for VEG is around mid to low 70's. for flower no higher than 83. Just put ur hand on top of ur plant and if it bothers u a bit raise it up it has to be just a bit tad warm enough to make that dome warmish..

With seeds or clone starts temp is much more important than the light source. Try and maintain 75 degrees, air and medium. I start mine on the kitchen counter under the under cab halogen lights which are horrible for growing but I can maintain a constant 74 to 78 degrees. Once the seeds pop I have to move them to the veg box under the T8's or they will stretch way too much under the halogen.

400w scortches my perlite on the top at about 12in away. :? I still do it, but once the seedlings sprout, I back off to over 3ft.

Did you say 400 watt on a clone better raise that shit to the ceiling get you a 24 watt t5 single lamp and use
That untill you are fully rooted . You going to be fucking. Your
Plant before you even start

If you are using a clone dome for actually trying to root clones you don't need a bulb anywhere near as strong as 400W. Remember, a 400W MH bulb runs hotter and generates more heat than a 400W HPS bulb. That's the first mistake. Second is thinking you need so much wattage. My clone room (actually 2 shelves in a closet) has just a 75W bulb that runs 24/0. You can use a small table lamp placed high in the room with the shade removed. That's plenty of light power for your needs.

Good luck, BigSteve.

a SINGLE T5 correct?

What wattage. I hear 24/75 what is best and how high?

Also for how long should I be using that before I switch to MH?

I use a 2 foot 24 watt t5 single bulb for cuttings and seedling and u can use that light until the clones are pushing out the tray with roots
