The problem is the government gets in the way. They don't let the free market really happen, by instituting protectionist policies.

I have a full geothermal system, and am installing a large solar array in the field behind my house. I'm not off-grid, but won't pay utilities.

I'm all for the fed on this... they gimme a 30% tax credit on the whole shebang. IMHO, nothing wrong with subsidy to launch critical technology. Shit, big oil and coal have received subsidy every since they started.

And the free market allowed China to dump cheap solar on the world. That worked out OK for all of us. Didn't see any protectionism??
