Minimum, optimal, recommended sizes of reservoir?

Hi guys,

What is the optimum size of res per plant. Is is like 2 gal per plant? If it varies from system to system let's break it down. Thanks all.

It depends largely on both how big are your plants going to get and what technique are you going to use. For example techniques where only roots have to fit in a bucket and most of the water is recirculated from some central reservoir, you'll need less water then with techniques like regular DWC where each bucket keeps both the roots and a water supply for a week or so.

2 gal could be OK for small DWC setup for example, but for a larger plant even 5 gallon buckets are on a small side. I had plants that at their peak could probably drink what you'd fit in a 2 gal bucket in about three days.

I use 20 gallons for a 9 plant ebb bucket system that uses 2 gallon pots. The pots are flooded with about 1.5 gallons of water each which leaves 6.5 gallons needed for the pump to work and pump water (4 gallons is actually needed for the pump to work, but I like a little extra in there for the plants thirst).

Thanks everyone. In respect to Spanky84, yes, I mean the central reservoir for example, because it still feeds the plants. Not caring so much what they have to sit in. The reason behind the question is pH stability and frequency of top-ups. Thanks everyone.

All depends on how many plants, size of plants and system. I use as little as 2.5 gallons with 4 vegging plants in my aero/shallow water culture.

Fair enough. I should have specified that it is for flowering. Vegging stage is not very demanding. Thanks.

in flowering I would have at least 2 gallons of nutrient solution per plant. I've personally seen a bag seed I grew drink over a gallon a day in late flower. All depends on How long you veg for and size of plant

Policy here:

Minimum of 25 gallons per 1000 watts of lighting------don't concern yourself with gallons per plant.

Interesting i run 4000 watts and a 55 gallon res on 24 plants no issues.
In my lazy world-----less effort-------than going much smaller.

I've run 100 gallons for 4K------flush and reload every 7-10 days.
