I was about to smoke a blunt then your 1000 dollar expense popped into my head..u spent a grand but don't have nutrients. a ventilation system , cloning supplies or a tent.. wtf did you buy?
Starter soil, 600w light, panda sheet, thermometer, superthrive, 105CFM muffin fan, 144X3 LED from mars LED, I am gonna either exchange or sell the 600w though and grab a couple CFL 200w lights. Also I included the 150$ 435CFM fan that I am gonna try to get today. Electric tape, tarp tape, ducting. A handful of other small things but it all adds up. It might not quite be a thousand yet but will hit that soon enough.

CFLs aren't much cooler than HID. They're about the lowest efficiency, starting at ~70lm/w and degrading from there. Being omnidirectional there is even less efficiency if you have to reflect that into a direction.

Again, I hate to discourage you. it sounds like you're desperate and have already made decisions before seeking advice. Do the best you can. If it were me, I'd use the HID and invest more in ventilation if I had to. (Notwithstanding, if it were me, I'd do something entirely different as mentioned previously.).

If you were growing a plant or two you could get into Cree "lightbulbs" or SMD5630 strips for a fairly low cost. They have low heat. But, if you're trying to do a larger space with more plants (and hit the jackpot), HID and ventilation is the way to go.

One other discouraging thought came to me last night. Even if you do beat the odds with your first grow and have a stunning yield, you still have to dry and cure. You can cut the value of your harvest in half if you mess that up. It takes a few grows to get used to this process. Maybe your roommate who grows on the kitchen table has some skill?

Why would u sell your 600w money maker! And down grade to an overpriced veg unit!
I'm rethinking it after a long talk with my hydroshop guy. If I can get the heat down enough with the 435CFM fan then I may just run both the lights in order to achieve optimum results.

I think drying will be the least of my worries. I've got a friend that's experienced in it but my roomie has less knowledge of it than me from what I've seen thus far, I mean apart from smoking it). And ya.. Gonna try to keep the 600, I've got everyone telling me that I'm an idiot for shipping it off/back. I'm moving fairly slowly on any decisions that I have been making so as to get a good amount of input before doing anything too stupid. I did get the LED as a bit of an impulse buy but if I'm able to use it with my 600 and keep temps manageable then it should work out for the best.

To anybody still checking out this thread.. I literally just had my 10 year old daughter hook up/wire a Vero29..

COB
ez mate
couple handfuls of wagos
driver
cord cut off an old lamp in the attic
cpu heatsink
old cell charger
kapton tape

Nice little veg lamp and took her about an hour with my help..

I love my A51s, and I know I'm not the first person to say this, but after piecing together my first little lamp I don't think I would ever buy another light out of the box.. I love LEDs and personally don't use HPS, but here's a pic of my first POS LEDP1030246.JPG

That's a $499 "432W 7 band" (lol) HTG with probably less than 2000 hrs on it.. Luckily I got it for over 50% off, but you get the point.. I'm no hater just trying to help someone not make the same mistakes I did..

On a side note, I spent more money than I would care to admit on RO water and AN nutrients.. I get better results using tap water and Jacks..

Now that I got the HTG out it's time to bust it open and see what I can salvage from the guts..
