Can foxtailing be corrected?

If the contributing factors are corrected, will the plant resume normal growth? As I understand it, excessive heat, improper nutrient application, light leaks, old age, and genetics can all be culprits. Obviously, genetics and age are tough, but all others can be better regulated.

Time remaining until harvest is a constraint, often foxtailing occurs late into flower, and how much could be gained in a week or two, unlike normal growth? It seems to me, that once it starts it continues until harvest, I'd like to hear about your experiences.

^What a larfy fucking mess that is. Bummer dude. Foxtailing can happen from two main reasons (there are more, but these two are most common). First, as you stated, they will do it because they are too hot and are trying to deal with the heat. B. The plant has a very high calyx to leaf ratio.

I have seen some plants do it for seemingly no reason at all. There is nothing wrong with it unless you are noticing that your plant is overly mature and the trics are starting to degrade. Here is a pic of a Super Lemon Haze that was one of the best phenos I have ever grown and ALL of the nugs foxtailed. The temp never exceeded 80 for the duration for the grow. No, it can't be stopped.IMG_20131020_064101.jpg

Priceless! LMFAO You should have been there for the trimming...
Fuck that brother! I would not have stayed for it. I help out trimming a lot, but ODs or larfy nightmares are the ones that I will avoid like the plague. I try to save those for the new trimmers in the group so they can earn their stars. Did it smoke well at least?

Ive never really understood what foxtailing exactly is? Can someone explain it, perhaps some pictures. And what is so bad about it?

Holy shit.
That bottom pic looks like that one plant would have taken a day to trim.
Was their room between all those leaves for much bud?
How much did u end up with?

The pic I posted a couple posts back is of a fox-plant. It means the bud is not shaped in the traditional cone shape and has multiple crowns. It can be bad (caused from too much heat), or it can just happen from a high calyx to leaf ratio (like the pic I posted of the Super Lemon Haze).

Hmm I didn't actually realise what fox tailing is until just now. I have a Psicodelicia that has fox tailed like crazy and has been flowering forever! I figured it was because I almost killed it when I accidentally unplugged the power to my hydro pumps. The other three in the tent have already finished though (shit grow though).

Is this bud foxtailing? the picture was taken about 5 days ago, i'll get a better picture soon. The bud just seems really fat, but i thought it was a good thing, my grow room has been getting hot lateley around 88F

edit: picture i just took

See how the bud looks to be getting fatter from the middle outwards. Is the bud just getting fat or Is that foxtailing, does it only happen upwards?

Well, it was hanging out in the grow room for weeks long after my other plants finished. I'm just a self grower so I wasn't under any pressure to produce buds for anyone but myself. Since I had my quota I figured to watch it for any signs of "ripeness" but nothing occurred. When I started trimming it was too much so I just said fuck it and pulled most of the leaves and stuffed the remains in a pizza type box for 5-6 days until ready to cure...lol. The smoke was really smooth, got a buzz I wasn't use to, and then stuck the jars in the fridge. If someone was trying to quit cigarettes this would be a perfect smoke for them along with some 1 mg. nicotine replacement stuff.

That looks like a butter/tincture plant to me. Especially if you already met you quota.

nah bro, that's not foxtailing...
this is what it is.
That's an extreme example though, that's the dr grinspoon, a legendary sativa that takes like 17 decades to mature, and needs the light of a supernova

You mean a legendary pain in the ass. I would like to smoke it one day though. I might grow it in the future, but I would only grow one plant for sure. How did you like the smoke?

ahh man, never did the plant, i'd be an asskicker amongst men if I did.
I just know a lil about it, and have a soft spot for sativas, last season I grew a kali that I flowered at 18inches (in june no less) and that ended up over seven feet tall, and the distance between nodes at the largest was over 18 inches!
and that's grown outside under the CA sun.... stretching...
and I harvested it in early novemeber and the thing wasn;t finished yet...
that's all of june, july, aug, sept and oct, and it was still throwing new pistils up.
REALLY strong smoke though, made the world "sparkly" if you know what I mean.
Cut right through any of my strains though, and I have some strong ones.
I agree with you though, I want to someday grow a landrace and see what it can do... maybe cross it with some other genetics..

You guys should try to grow an old timers haze or purple haze those fuckers take forever and fox tail out of control but they probably would taste bad ass if a grower could handle keeping them healthy for that long time.

Okay thanks tho, any idea on why my plant is doing this tho? it seemed to get worse over night. I thought i was close to harvest and now its getting new growths on the buds.

I finally germed a few of the Amnesia beans that I have had for a few years. I got them just to have, but now I can totally make them work with my flower rooms. The Dr. is another animal all together. Not only is she a long flowering strain, but she is VERY touchy also. Don't let her dry too much. Don't get her too cold. Don't give her too much food. Don't fart next to her unless you had a substantial amount of complex carbohydrates to night before (J/K). A seriously tough strain to grow any way you look at it. That strain needs a lot of attention from day one. Like I said, one day. Just not now. I applaud anybody that does try to grow her out and is successful. It is supposed to be some of the most absurd smoke you will ever try. Tasty as fuck with a brick to the head. Yes please! They don't play well with others and are not great strains to cross. They are a unique animal not for growers that are not prepared to be seriously devoted to a plant.
