An inexpensive soil that will do the job is kelloggs patio plus......you can find it at home depot or lowes. While your plants veg amend some patio plus with espoma plant tone and let it cook,by the time your ready to flower your amended soil will be ready for your plants to flower in.YOu will also need some compost or castings, perlite and peat moss. All can be found at home depot and or lowes except the worm castings but you can substitute with compost from lowes or home depot.

Heres my recipe

start plants directly in the kellogs patio and cook some soil while vegging
33% peat moss 33% perlite without nutrients 33% compost or worm castings
use about 3-5 cups of plant tone per cubic foot of soil and cook for at least a month

this is a water only recipe.

It will do for veg but will probably not have enough juice to flower with all the way.You can top dress with espoma plant tone in flower if you don't want to mix any soil but your best bet would be to cook some soil up.

i was looking into using general organics for nutrients
also i was looking to buy 12 quart bag of fox farms happy frog and some organic perlite
how much perlite should i mix in with the fox farms happy frog
and how much time do i need to wait to start giving the plant nurtients

My favorite cheap medium is pro-mix bx with myco. Here its like 24$ a bail (3.7 cuboc feet I think), I can easily fill 5 ten gallon pots with a bail.

I use general orgamics on my stuff as.well. only the thrives cal mag and bio root though. I have a couple other things I toss in too but those are the main solution.

Pro mix is great to fill area in outdoor plots too just get it set and ammended the fall before your season especially in large plots

The happy frog will do fine without nutrients for a while, once you see the first signs of deficiencies start your nutrient regimen.I wouldn't add too much perlite if any to happy frog, that's just me though a lot of people do.The way I see it the perlite just cuts the nutrient value of the soil. What I would recommend since your going with fox farms' soil is starting in happy frog then transplant into ocean forest, try to go as long as possible without using bottled nutrients.Keep it simple and grow happy trees.

I ran the GO box by general organics and was impressed. It is hard to burn your ladies with that stuff. I used it on my first grow with sunshine#4 and loved the results.
They were vibrant healthy plants up until chop time.
Good Choice IMO.

If you live close to a landscape depot where they sell , peat, composted pine bark and dark loam you can get very good medium dirt cheap ,,,, it compares with promix , minus the mycorrhizae

Ocean forest is only $12 a 1.5 cubic foot bag here in cali. You can get pallets for $500-550 if you get a good discount at your hydroponics store. A pallet is 62 bags. Ocean is a very easy, good soil to work with. Has a lot of great stuff in it. For outdoor I do a 50/50 ocean/happy frog mix with 3-4 cubic feet of perlite per 100 gallons of soil. Works great, imo adding the perlite makes a huge difference especially when using large pots. The extra drainage makes for a way better more oxygenated root system. If you don't use it, after a while when you get a huge root mass, the soil tends to brick up pretty solid and its harder to water evenly. The water doest penetrate the soil as well as it would have with the added perlite. You also don't have to feed anything for the first 2-3 weeks depending on how fast your plants grow.

Indoors I just use 2/3 ocean and 1/3 perlite. Great easy mix, and I get killer results. I use coco too with the same to perlite ratio

I've recently played with making my own.

25% roots organic soil
25% perlite
50% Premier peat moss

Added some dolomite lime and myco..

Something I didn't add but will next time: a wetting agent. Shit is seriously hydrophobic when dry. Still haven't decided what to do about it exactly.

To early to attest to results, but certainly much cheaper. I'm liking it so far.
