The best time is to harvest at peak potency, and get the high you want according to the traits rather then then harvesting early. When about 60-80% are amber and the rest milky, then they will be perfect. but do not go to late, because if they go to long the thc will start to degrade. If there are lots of clear trichs when you harvest then they probably are not done and you will be losing potency.:blsmoke:

With Indica dominant strains I personally harvest when quite clear so as not to get too much couch lock and with Sativas I harvest when very amber so as not to feel like Im on speed! Personal prefernce based on what you know about the strain you are growing.

Indicas are supposed to be knockouts making you sleepy ,hindering the natural high is beyond me:blsmoke:

a good way to start if this is your first grow is to harvest when there is 50/50 amber to milky. Then do some research and go from there. peace

Yes pistols are the are the female sex organs, the trichomes or resin glands are what produce the thc which gets you high. The plant material only provides taste and smells.:blsmoke:

ive concluded that its not just % of amber and cloudy as the strain of the plant introduces another variable to the question when r they ready, i have just grown 3 lryder2 plants which turned out completely diff to eachother. i kept a vigilant eye on the trichs and this is wat i found. plant no1 was tall and very hairy with dense bud and little leaves, the trichs on these stayed claer and then turned amber without any milky stage , no2 was a very short v leafy plant which was caked in thc but all over the leaves as well, these trichs turned milky and then amber at the bottoms of the trichs, nunber 3 was a mix between the two and even though all the leaves were dead and it was on week 10 1/2 the trichs just didnt turn at all?? i will report in when dry on the smoke of each plant and let u know wat i think lets get to the bottom of this :) anyways i babbled so ireckon that strain can also decipher ripeness,, look at the whole plant and not just trichs hope this helps lol

can my plants lose potency from me handling them and me moving them so i can look at the buds through the scope? if so that would be not cool because i figured that the potency would remain even if trichomes get knocked off.

Yes they can as you knock off or rub off the trichs. Take a clean pair of snips and trim a small leaf from the bud area and check it out under a microscope or a jewelers loupe. I found this much easier than trying to deal with checking a bud that is still on the plant.
