One of the things you can't help but notice in OneHits recent image is how nicely you can see all the canopy in the reflector. Cheap reflectors won't do this. Also if the reflector geometry is wrong you'll see the lamp in the reflector. That means if you can see the lamp in the reflector from where OneHit took the photo the reflector is directing photons away from the canopy. As you can see in this image the reflector does not show the lamp.

Thanks chaz.............hope the aqua-ponics systems take off!, CA needs all the help it can get. Lot's of talk around the conventions here that you guys should start thinking of importing in produce/meat/dairy. Would never wanna see that happen.
IG par 100 is currently growing micro-greens for a james beard award winning restaurant, tiny program which I run for free wine & food, worth it IMO. Just growing red vein sorrel & amaranth in house, they tend to rot quickly in clam shell packaging from blue moon farms and cost big $$$$......mine are also animal by-product FREE(vegan).

With the 100W fixture they frequently end up 3-4" from the lamp with no burn before I have a chance to reposition things or move the light up
The 420 is obviously a different story. I believe it was around 10-12" but now I keep it around 18" with the pontoon for proper blending of the led's

Not highjacking at all - not sure why the only lighting of interest lately are the corn cobs when there are other options
Would you mind sharing what is inside the tubs on the dwc systems?

Yeah I'm not sure why that is either. IG has a nice even footprint and 2-3 of them over a 4 x 8 consistently delivers high quality finishes. One thing for sure though the COB wars are just warming up!
As to what's inside the DWC those are the UC-PRO modules from CCH2O. Inside I run their aerator rings. As you can see by my images I use a brick to hold them down. Try as I might the suction cups always break away from holding the rings down and when I check in on them they'd be floating on top of the water which doesn't do much for infusing DO into the water. So I let one side of the ring ride up in the water and the other side is weighted down with the brick.
As I compare the aqauponic side to the other two systems in this room the aquaponic side is currently slaying it. The first image shows the roots at day 7 and the next shows them at day 10.

So the only dwc system is run on aquaponics water or do you have one going on mineral nutrients as well? How is that as far as clogging up the diffuser etc?
On the 5 gallon bucket system your running, what size is the drain pvc / grommet?

That is correct. Only the DWC system is purely aquaponics. The spray to waste is fed by fish water into a 55 gal barrel whereby additional nutrients can be added. The runoff leaves the 5 gal buckets in a 1" pvc whereby they end up in a sump which pushes off the runoff into the soil gardens. This type of system is referred to as a decoupled aquaponic system in that the water never runs back into the fish tank so the added nutrients don't hurt the fish. As to clogging up the diffusers it's never been an issue. I use the fabric liners in the 8" net pots which, for the most part, prevents the coco from getting into the water.

So on the decoupled system do you run a nutrient analysis to know what is needed as far as additions?

It is a pretty sweet setup! This is our first decoupled system so it remains to be seen. What we're doing so far is taking our Flying Skull lineup at 1/2 the recommended dosing levels into the res. We're watching plant response from that. Since we'll send the runoff over to the soils garden it's not like we're going to do any harm at these levels.

So are you noticing a better plant response form the straight fish water dwc or the nutrient charged decoupled system?
