Building a fence. Any ideas?

I want it to be 25 feet long 17 feet wide and 8 feet tall with a top on it. I was looking at making it a chain link fence with 9 gauge material. Any suggestions? I really dont care how it looks as long as it keeps people out long enough to put some buck shot in em.

you mean so you can try to scare them off with your buck shot. The rest of your life in jail really worth the weed? chain link fencing is just as easy to jump as a wood fence. Its the extras like barbed wire, motion alarms, motion lights, cameras and dogs that scare off most would be theives.

without a razor wire top you can be up and over CL fence in seconds, but never scrimp on hole depth or the amount of concrete to set line and end posts and use bigger posts than called for,

a barb wire cross hatching on 12" centers will stop most anything . got a 500' roll in my yard you can have ...lolz....
make the fence 9-12ft tall and your good
good idea. I was going to make it 8 feet tall but I could go 9. so just make the fence and then string barb wire all across the top long ways and side ways?

I know you can get in the fence regaurdless. I'm just trying to make it so at night they cant just jum the fence and cut branches and leave real quick. plus I think the combo of a fence and dogs will help

hole depth should be 1/3 to 1/2 of the height above ground. 8' fence height should have 3-4' of pole buried, so you'd need 12' posts. Hole diameter 3-4 times the width of the post. Tractor with a post hole digger is best. You may want to get some help if you've never installed chain link before. Also if you live in an urban area, some towns limit the height of fencing you can install and if it can have razor wire on top. Check with codes and permits for your county.

its going to be a sectin within my yard. I allready have a fence. if it sticks up 2 feet over my fence do you think they would give me a hard time about it?
I know my neighbors on both sides really well and the back of my house is a field.

I thought of barb wire but it depends on where you live either in city limits or outter areas, barb wire would draw alot of attention in neighborhoods i think. plus you always have people against growing it. motion deteotors and motion lights work well plus staying up all night!! lol

Here are some options i have done. Pic 1 is just your standard 6 foot 9 gauge with 3 strans of barb wire. Pic 2 and 3 i attached expanded metal to the chain link, only way to get through would be a grinder or torch. Op mentioned a roof, its defiantly do able but on a 17 foot width you'd need ladder trusses expanding the with distance. Pic 4 is a product called 1 inch mesh Basically a 9 gauge not climb. The pic is 10 foot tall wire but you can get it in any size you want. Any questions id be happy to address. I know all about security fencing.

I've got 7' flat topped fence and I just ran a string of barb about an inch below the top of my fence along the inside. Works well.

I was going to use barb wire now that I think about it, it might piss people off. After all, I do live in the city. I seen these back panells at home depot I wonder if I can make a perimeter out of that and then just put chain link over the top.
