So my friend just lost a big crop to powdery white mildew. So it's non smokeable. My question is can anything be salvaged for non edible lotion or tinctures or is is totally scrapped? Thanks.

Get the buds to 180F. This should kill the mold. Then hash them. Then cook the hash into oil and water, then separate the two in the fridge or freezer. It'll be sterile by then.

Ok so both sides. Now I'm more confused. Lol. Not interested in using it for smoking at all. Just cannibis topical oil based lotion and tincture. I kind of see the guys point in the washing video but would like to know if anyone has done this and if so what are effects to plants thc? Thanks. This is a great info site for us newbies.

I did the wash before but did it multiple times with a rinse in between then went on to water cure for 7 days.It made the smoothest tasting butter ever.the smoke itself didn't really have Any Taste at all( not even mildew/mold??)
Sorry, no clue about topicals.kwiso posted above that no toxins are present.

personally, I wouldn't take a chance. getting living microbes that could cause disease in your lungs is not a good thing. I wouldn't risk it, no matter how clean or cooked the buds are.

Why would i need to check for penicillin allergy.
I obviously am over 18 and have internet. Being an adult in a developed country im aware of allergies.

In general mold that eats living things are ok..bud rot for example is what creates dessert wines we drink. Though hay fever folk may have issues, of course its pissible to be allergic to spores. Again hay fever folk may be allergic to molds Nd not pollen. Thats really the only issue that could arise

@qwizoking thanks for mentioning this. up until I read the thread, I too thought using pot with PM or botrytis was an absolute no no. I just happened to see this further explanation from @Fadedawg so I'll copy to here.

Even in a lotion, there is the issue of smell.

All molds aren't created equal, with composting molds like Aspergullus, living on dead material, producing aflatoxins that attack the central nervous system.

Powdery Mildew lives on live material, and produces no known aflatoxins, so if you filter out the filaments and spores to 0.2 micron, using a syringe filter, it will remove the odor and mold taste. With the solids gone, and no aflatoxins, you can mostly use it however you want.

Note that Bothrytis also produces no known aflatoxins, but some people still get a Type 1 allergic reaction to its filaments and spores. With that possible unknown, to err on the side of safety, I suggest not giving filtered moldy material to folks with compromised immune systems or to anyone who isn't aware of exactly what it is.
