And thank you for explaining why you were being mean to me, I thought you were just being a jerk just to be one
I have seen this "idea/dream" brought to us here way to often.....you need to listen to these guys!

I've done this in one way or another for more then twice as long as you are old.
I have spent time in B.C., Netherlands, Col. and settled back home when it became Medical here.
I own, with my wife an Organic farm that has 2 others connected in a co-op. 2 dispensaries and 2 big ops to feed them. I still buy for the shops and it has to be tested by a testing lab that I approve of at the growers cost. I most likely won't buy it if it's not Organic - the customers LOOK for organic around here and the little synthetic I buy is from people I know and are friends with, because they grow top shelf and the best strains and have their methods dialed in from years of exper.

The electric bill from one of the commercial ops will stop your breath alone. The equipment and buildings, not to mention any renovation, cost near the 7 figures....Hell son, I just built a personal grow / testing facility for growing mine and going back to practice some breeding again on Quality in stability ideals....That place took over 20K to build. It was started last Aug. and the damn HAVAC contractor (420 friendly) hasn't even put in my furnace and central AC yet!

You have some mighty big fucking dreams and you don't even KNOW how to grow!
The point with that, is you expect it to happen in what 2-3 years?
You won't even have mastered growing yet!

It took me decades to get it just the way I wanted (Farm, grows, shops) .....Jobs from greenhouse's, growing Yew's for drug companies, Setting up Computer controlled DTW herb farm and running that till they found someone else too (because I got tired of the owner calling almost every other day to say "HELP, I NEED YOU TO" and "I can't get this to" or "Damn thing won't"). And I still travel the country and give lectures to Hort student classes on Old school farming technique and sustainability / Organic and alternate farming solutions...

But I got there! It took TIME!
It won't happen over night!
GO to college and GET a Horticultural DEGREE! That is the BEST advise I can give if what you want to do is really what your going to do....OR trust me, you WILL be hiring one!

Don't lose the dream. Just take it in little steps....or as my wife likes to say. "How do you eat an elephant? - One bite at a time"

Respect!

I am currently double majoring in horticulture and soil science. Not for marijuana purposes . Weed not being legal in my state we have discussions about it all the time. Whether it should be legal, jobs it creates for Hort. Majors and ect. Anyways if you got the money for a marijuana biz then you should open a pizza hut franchise or maybe a chik fil a. But if weed goes legal almost immediately commercial companies will kick your ass out of biz and taxes will break your bunghole.Or by the time you open a shop there will be another war on drugs and your forced to close up.

And holy shit 3500 a pound. Damn Cali is expensive

Thank you all for your kind, and some unkind words. It really put into perspective on how much work this will take. I was lied to about how much would yield from this plant, and how much a pound would sell for. As I said when I first made the thread, this plant was for personal use, until somebody had the idea of selling the buds to a dispensary. I was told it was easy. I now know it isn't. I understand it'll take time and money, and it's time and money I'm willing to put in. I took all you're advice and wrote it down and I will share it with my buddies.

Listen to Doc. Weed and dudesmokes, when this goes legal we're all fucked except for personal users.

I read your first post bro, you said you wanted yo harvest a pound and sell it so that's not for personal use.

Also, like I said before, switch dispensaries and don't talk to the people who said a pound would be 3500. If that was anyone in your crew they should be out.

and I really hope thats not you in your profile pic cause that would just be the icing on the cake for this thread...

For the people who aren't roasting me for being a beginner at something; thank you. I UNDERSTAND that it will take quite a bit of trial and error, the thing about the marijuana market is that it won't go away. So yes I know I'm young but I obviously have time
In 5 years pot will be grown only on corporate owned mega farms. Regulation and every barrier to entry they can think up will make it so a small operation won't have a chance. Expensive inspections, licenses, constantly changing regulations and everybody and his brother all thinking they will be the next pot king. Ending prohibition will take all the money out of growing.

we're going to the farm Saturday, can you guys tell me exactly what I should do on Saturday to get the ball rolling? I plan on quitting my job soon to focus on this full time, his dad will pay us $10 an hour to work the farm as long as he gets his 10%. Regardless of how long it take, or how hard of work it is, I'm willing to give the time to make this work.
If he's paying you, he owns ALL the crop. He owns the land, and any crops grown on it. You're just the hired help.

Does your friends dad not use the farm? If that's the case why not continue to grow avacodsos and whatever else he was growing since it sounds pretty successful. I would grow the fuck out of some avocados if I had the chance.

Be the first to commercial grow white alpine strawberrys on a massive level. I bet you would make mad cash

Actually if the ab 266 makes it past the senate in august , it will protect the small grower. Requiring all growers to get license from the state and local. It will pre empt all local ordinances creating state wide regulations. It supposed to be the standard for the rest of the country to follow. Colorado and washington and oregon regulations fucked everyone. They will have to adapt to california regulations eventually

Hey there, I have quite a few questions about the marijuana growing business here in SoCal. Bear with me as I am a newbie in this field.

My friends and I want to make growing Marijuana a career (we're all 18). One of my friends included in this goal, is very very rich, and his dad is letting us use his farm as long as everything we grow is legal (state wise). We all have our medical marijuana cards, which in Cali allows us to have 6 mature plants. We have 7 friends including me who are going to put our 6 plants on the farm, so we will have a total of 42 legal plants. We bought a Blackberry Kush clone the other day, and put it under 150w of CFL light, and a small fan, with a bowl of water in the box (the box is lined with foil so it's reflective thought the height of the plant, so the lightbulbs don't only hit the top). How much can we expect for this plant? A pound? It's going to be switched to a bigger box, with reflective plastic rather than foil, and a stronger light sorce (probably HIDs).

Now that you know how far along we are, I have some questions.

We want to treat this as a strict business, so we would go into dispensarys, and ask to become a potential vendor for their clinic, if they ask for a sample, we would happy give it to them. Once we sell the pound of the Blackberry Kush that we got from the clone, we're going to use that money to buy more clones, and some crazy strain seeds that are pretty rare here in SoCal (Maui Wowie, Borderliner, Alaskan Thunder Fuck, etc.). I know that these plants require different light schedules, so for the seeds that we buy we will made sure that they're auto-flowering females, and grow them outdoors.

So we came up with the base price at $3500 a pound regardless of how dank it is, that way we grow a quick relationship with all the dispensarys in SoCal, and eventually supply the delivery clinics as well. We wrote down on paper what to say when we call these dispensaries; so we sound professional and do not studder. We would dress is somewhat business casual. We want to show these guys that were serious about this and that we are not just a bunch of stupid kids who had good luck with a plant.

Now, if we grow a pound per plant, and sell it at $3500, $3500x42=147,000. We owe my friends dad who owns the farm a 90/10 split, he gets 10%(THATS IF WE SELL ALL THE BUD)
$147,000 is a fuck ton of money, so split by 7 would be still a fuck load of money. At that point we would build an actual grow room where we can keep the mother plants in the veg stage so we can clone them.

We have the trimming under control, because many of the kids we knew in highschool (we all just graduated) would trim weed for free as long as we smoke them out.

After awhile we would get the "growers permit" which allows us 99 plants per permit. We already decided that 400 plants is enough, and not to go over that due to the workload. 400x$3,500= 1.4million x 3 yields = 4.2 million, $420,000 would go to the farm owners for the 10% split. We're left with $3.78 million, divide that by 7 and we each get $540,000. After awhile with that money, we would buy another farm, and use more of the 99 plant growing permit, and have 400 at this farm. You get it, we're making a shit load amount of money.

So as you can see, this can become a real business, it would all be under the table yes, and keep it in cash, but it would still be a business.

Now my real question: I'm not trying to to jail here, so I want to keep everything legit and professional, so what I wante to do is create invoices for every pound we sell, so when Marijuana becomes federally legal, we can deposit the money we made into our bank accounts, that way if the government is like wtf, we can say we sold medicine, and we would HAPPILY pay the taxes on the time we grew where it was federally illegal. What's your take on this? Do you have any ideas? Let me know!

We're a super smart kids who took AP classes in highschool and all got 4.0 GPAs, and we smoke weed everyday. We're not lazy at all.

absolutely nothing can go wrong with that plan.

I sell $1-1.5k lbs.
And how dank it is matters..

Im just saying..be realistic. Thats also with indoor, in a clean (hepa) contolled environment. Using unique strains like landrace sativas or uncommon clones.

It certainly can be done. Im in an illegal state so cant comment on any of that. But yiu can quickly make it into a business with effort and little start up.

Good luck

Well... Im not gunna bash you or crush your dream but this is a tad unrealistic. I live in Northeast PA and can buy pounds of dank for ALOT less than $3,500. I would imagine the price in SoCal is closer to 1,500 wholesale.

Yield isnt something you can really guess at.... You want a pound from your clone? You better supercrop the shit out of it and veg it for months under some good lights. Even that wont guarantee shit. My biggest grow got me 26oz of 10 plants (under 1000w cfl)... And the bud sucked... Ive had other plants that gave me under an ounce, but the best smoke ever.

Youay wanna study growing, and practice before you invest money into a failing grow operation. The amount of skill this plan of yours required is unreal.

You have seven friends involved and it sounds like you told a lot of other people about it also (potential trimmers). I can almost guarantee your crop is going to be ripped, especially considering the ages of everyone involved. At best you are going to have people who aren't willing to do their share of the work and still expect a full share of the profit. If you are serious about it, strike out on your own and keep your mouth shut. If it was that easy to make a million, everyone would do it.
