Would you consider buying a VERO after reading through some of the posts?

I'm not arguing that you get what you pay for, but you only ever hear horror stories online. Ive used Chinese drivers on incubators for years without any issues, Iv never had problems with any Chinese electrical stuff , alright the build quality isnt cracking but they do the job
So for people on a budget they're more than capable of lasting a year or 3. Just don't push them last their limits

I agree somewhat to the cheap Chinese stuff. IMO Your just better off to keep your main lights reliable and if you want to add on or supplement with the cheap stuff after then go for it. But again that is just an opinion lol

If I didn't buy the 5 veros I'd be running them in cen 100-42 drivers, couldn't stretch though

You could run a simple 5V 1A ac/dc power supply from cell phone to handle those three fans. they draw 0.16A at 12v from all the testing SupraSPL has done it seems the best voltage to run the fans at for efficiency and noise is 5v.

I was just reading a thread earlier where SupraSPL tested the difference between the stock thermal paste that comes already on some CPU heatsinks VS the better stuff and there was no measurable difference.

umm...why dont you Link that post....

I would say thats a misenterpretation...more that the Stock stuff is ok, Not a "non-measureable" difference.....Thermal impedance ratings????

That said, PK is usually cheaper than stock or No name, thats the real irony.

I have Thermaltake stock solution Right now [from a new project]and there is no way it compares with even PK1

jmo after a few builds....

chinese drivers are dogshit....Be warned....3 years of life is probably two standard deviations away from an average outcome, so I would say that is the exception and not the rule.....

Your right it is a bit of a misinterpretation on my part ;) or bad choice in wording. Thanks for straightening that out. as far as not linking the post, I am relatively new to this forum so I haven't figured it all out yet.

for cheap drivers I have had mixed success.

For example a couple of years ago I bought a whole bunch of Chinese UFOs and multi chip units (Chinese mixed led cobs). Currently over half of the units have failed in a year or less, but the failure point was not in the drivers, rather the leds and cob. so I'm recycling the drivers into my DIY led builds.

As a second example, I have a bunch of ebay special T5 fluoros , and one by one the electronic ballasts are going out. So far 50% of the cheap units are non functional, while the T5s with racehorse ballasts keep on ticking.

if you don't care if the ballast goes out early I guess it doesn't matter, but for me its a real pain in the ass, and it just means wasting $$$. A well made driver should last a very long time, and should provide a longer life on the leds.

I'd rather not play Russian roulette.

For someone on a budget who wants to upgrade later they're fine, plenty of pics of lambos broken down if you look for them.......

lambos are not known for reliability, they are known for raw speed (almost as fast as a tesla in insane mode :) )

own one?
if you bought one id say bull shit on the hung.

how many lambo drivers get out cornered by ups trucks, most i think.

I rented a lambo for a weekend test drive. Almost bought a Ferrari, suits me much better than the lambo, but decided a mistress was more important.

me thinks you have a size issue, my apologies for being insensitive.

No worries...I know where its at :)

I don't think there is really any worry with stock applications, where a thorough spread is just as important as transfer impedance.....

I still like the PK1 personally....10% less impendance and costs 60% less than Prolimatech pk3......[Supra's personal choice] :peace:

Id rather have a nondescript early watercooled VW with a tuned 4 cylinder or supplanted with Audi's older 2.2 inline 5...it would smoke the fuck out of either the Lambo or Ferrari on anything except Dead Straights....which aint even Nascar yet.....boring

Can you go 150/200kmh+ on gravel in either pile? No

:)

lol not insensitive just defensive

im observant of the tools with $$$ but their interest is in status not speed.

you can go 200mph for 10k on a gixer
but youll need balls n skills not bucks...of course the bucks wont hurt

what kind of a question is that ? when a major company puts up a 5 year warranty and then extends it to 7 year on their bread and butter product, the warranty means a helluva lot.
If a driver goes it goes, you still have to climb in and replace it. There's also an expectancy there. I know mine could go at any time so have backups, where as someone might think it'll last so won't need a backup
