Hey everyone, I've been lurking around the forums for a while, and have received a lot of useful info from the threads here. So, I'm hoping that some of you experts will help this noob out with his first grow.
2x4x7 Grow Tent
x4 Dedoverde Haze Auto
400w HID Lighting (EyeHortilux Daylight Blue until first preflowers, then I'll switch over to SHPS, most likely around day 25-30
Pro Mix HP CC (With about 13% perlite added, mix has 12-18% out of the bag, around 30% Chunk Coir and the remainder is Peat)
6" Can Fan and Lite Filter - Air cooled hood
2 Hurricane clip on fans for circulation
3 Gallon Smart Pots (elevated about 1" with 4 arm plant stands to promote root pruning on the bottom, some say it matters, others say it doesnt.)
Following Tang's Feeding Schedule from AFNet for the most part.
For germination I soaked the beans in a shot glass filled with spring water. Placed it on my cable box for warmth and covered it with another glass to keep the light out. Planted around 30 hours later (seeds had sunk to the bottom and swelled up but only one cracked and had a tiny tap root showing). Placed some clear plastic cups over them to keep the moisture in and they all sprouted within 48 hours. Two of them came up with the casing still attached to the cotyledons, I gently removed them with water and tweezers. Some things I've read said to let them be and do their thing, but I figure if I can save them some energy what the hell. One of the seeds actually surfaced without sprouting within about 24 hours and got exposed to my MH (likely due to planting too shallow), figured iti was a goner. I pushed it back down, hoped for the best, and it sprouted along with the others. I also top watered over the seeds (I know now that this is terrible), instead of just misting them. But apparently no harm was done.
Temps have been between 79 - 84F, RH between 39-51%.
Directly after watering, temp drops to 79F, humidity will rise to 48-51% and stay very steady for 12-24 hours. They both decline back to the baseline as the pots dry out (38-40% RH 82-84F). This has been a trend for all 3 waterings, and I've been using it as a guideline for when to CHECK if they need water.
I started my 400w MH at 24" and have been moving it down every few days to harden them off, currently at 16" from the tops (18 from soil), and will probably go down to 14" around day 15. Going to try pushing for 12" if temps will allow it. It seems that the temp at soil level doesn't increase as lower the light, air cooling ftw.
First watering was 250 ml on day 5, pots were bone dry again on day 6 so I gave them 500 ml (stuff dries out fast). Another 500 ml on day 8, and yesterday(day 9) they got their first feed (4ml of Sensi Grow A+B and Voodoo Juice in 4L of water, each lady got around 750 ml - PH 6.2 PPM 422). I likely should have waited until today before watering again, as the tips of the leaves (just the tip), began to droop slightly after watering, but they started perking back up in 6-8 hours and appear fine today (with some increased size to the new growth overnight).
I have a couple of concerns, the fans I'm using for circulation aren't blowing directly on my ladies, in fact when I place my hand around them at all angles I can't feel any breeze at all.... But they create enough ambient circulation to keep them in constant motion (leaves dancing/fluttering slightly, very little to no sway in the stem (1-3mm sway tops). I assume this constant motion is fine, and will only make them stronger?
Also, one of my babies has a couple brown spots on the first set of true leaves, but the second set appears fine (one looks like it might be slightly deformed). I assume the brown spots are maybe burn marks from water droplets?
Currently day 10 (consider it 9 1/2 pics were taken at like 6 am). As you can see, some appear to be doing better than others, but all have received the same treatment. In the 4th Pic (the only one whose second set of true leaves show no side growth), has me a little concerned. It's actually the healthiest looking of the bunch (color/texture wise), but isn't showing the same side growth on the second set as the others are. However the new set that's coming in from the main stem appears to be growing nicely, so I'm guessing ti's nothing to worry about.
Anyone that takes the time to read this mini novel and give their input has my utmost appreciation. Piff.
