Convert a cooker hood to box extractor fan?

I'm a skip diver. I have no shame. I rescue all sorts of treasure that other people throw out.

Yesterday I liberated a stainless steel cooker hood/extractor thingy.

It has a barrel type fan like in the mdf box type extractors, 3 speed switches and seems to move a whole lot of air. Quietly.

Has anybody any experience in rebuilding these into a more grow room friendly extractor? I'd be interested to see any pictures or get any feedback on the idea.

Makes me think, my vent hood over the stove also has a light. So what if you were to make a small cab and use the hood for both light and exhaust?

There are 2 little halogens on it, I guess as long as I used in enough calmag I could just hang it above a plant get maximum yields bro.

I think I'm going to try and take out the motor/fan bit from inside as the flared stainless steel bit is probably adding a lot of unnecessary weight. If it was to be extracting from a whole room it could probably just be wall mounted and as you say, bit of tape, ducting, carbon filter on the 'blow end' (not ideal but would work)...

I've got some plywood in the shed somewhere so if I can get it apart and still have a working fan at the end of it I'll try and copy the design of a box fan like this one maybe...

I have used stove hoods before and they work very well. I would rewire for Metal Halide or HPS and put a carbon filter in-line in the exhaust. I let the fan run on low all the time and it kicks on to high when the lights turn on. Good score for a dumpster dive!
