This is my second grow and I used 3 250watt daylight spectrum CFLs last time and the girls looked good and healthy but the buds were kind of small and spread out. And I was always under the impression that the biggest and brightest was the best but reading some forums a lot of ppl are using small weak CFLs and like 30 of them lol! What should I do?? My medium is fox farm forest ocean soil with a little extra pearlite added. I'm going to be using a tent on this go around. I have a ballast with a 400w hps or mh not too sure which one but I'm afraid to use it because I do want to accidentally burn the house down lol! Any help would be great and appreciated

Its simple man, especially that you have a tent. First you arent going o burn anything down lol, just put the ballast outside the tent and on a piece of plywood. Now for your lights, use the MH during veg, and switch it back over to HPS during flower. Now, I dunno the dimensions of the tent, but im assuming that its going to get a little toasty in there, unless u have a hood and can vent out the tent. If you dont be sure to get some fans to exhaust out, bc that MH will get hot as hell. Good luck!

Cfls can be as dangerous as hid lighting.(not very) but having one big light that I didn't need to move around and lose my mind over helps big time.

Don't put the ballast inside the tent, the heat will make the ballast leak some gooey tar. I used 400, buds were abit small but did decent yield. the more the watt the more difficult to maintain and would require more investing.

This is what I'm working with, it was 208v converted to 120v. It does work I tested it! Is it hps or MH can anyone tell? The bulb itself is like 12" long!
