I'm in the middle of expanding moving and growing, I just got titan helios 7. So i should use 50 amp, but.... Long story.

Can i use 30 amp and 10-3 if I only plug in half, 4 lights, vs 8???

Do you have the option to run at 220 volts? If so you can utilize the lower amperage.

Yes, its 220. But its an 8 light unit, requiring 50 amp circut and #6 wire i believe.

I should be fine installing it onto a 30 amp with #10 wire as long as i only use 4 lights, correct?

Im going from 4 to 8 lights and moving soon, but i dont want to buy a small controller or unessecary lengths of wire.

Got it used on ebay for $100, with wiring! However im using existing dryer socket.

Get it?

If you run it like that it will shorten the life of the unit, and those are not cheep. Not sure where you live but a 50 amp barker at lower is $13.00

how many lights and watts do you want to use on it?

Thats what i thought.... Thanks.
If you are using 1000 watt hids then it wont work, that would be 37.6 amps on a 30 amp breaker, and will not work. thats why i ask what size lights. If your not using 1000 watters and nothing else is on that line then you will be ok

A 1000 watt hid light is either almost 9 or almost 4.5 amps, depending on 110/220.

You divide your watts by volts to get amps

1000÷ 220= 4.5
110 or 220 it pulles the same amps. on 110 power it pulles 9.4 on 220 it pulles 4.7 on each poll so you have to times it by 2 = 9.4
1000 watt hid use 9.4 amps
600 watt uses 5.5
400 watt uses 3.6
250 watt uses 2.3

You are wrong. Equipment ran on 220 runs half the amperage of the same equipment on 110. The wattage is the same, not the amps. Which is why we are charged per kilowatt hours, not amps.

1000w at 110v 9.09 amps
1000w at 220v 4.55 amps
600w at 110v 5.45 amps
600w at 220v 2.73 amps.

Watts divided by voltage gives you amps.

Ive seen people run 24 lights in house on 100

A 8 light controller normally uses a 50 amp breaker, pulling about 36 amps... Am i wrong lol?
