Timer switches - does it matter which brand/type?

Hi

I was told that 600 Watt grow lights can not be hooked up to just any regular UK plug timer.

Is this true? I was planning to get some cheap timer plugs, something like the following

I need to supply 10 x 600 watt solistek lights, (10 600 watt solistek ballasts)

Or perhaps there is a cheaper way to go about this?

Do NOT trust or use digital timers. The cheap analog timers from Wal Mart are far better and more reliable. Much more capable of daily use.

are those solistek ballasts digital? if so thats the reason you were told the cheap timers won't work. I'm not familliar with any stuff from the uk really but I know most of.the timers ive had say right on them DO NOT use with digital ballasts.

now I can't tell you why they say that, but ive always used flouro/mag ballasts and have never had.toworry about the no digital rhthing.

Yes the solistek ballasts are digital

ok so before you buy a timer just make sure its ok for use with digital ballasts and you should be fine.
