Going commercial

I think there are many upsides to a setup like that. Also legally, I think you pretty much wash your hands, since youre not spitting out a physical product. But who knows about US laws. Im in South America, so shipping is a huge deal to me when buying from different people, and I think LIttleJacob, located in Europe, feels the same way. So there's potentially a big international market for such packs. Very easy to setup, and very, very easy to sell. Again, best of luck :=)

That's actually a smart idea. I don't have the funds to get something like that off the ground at the moment but I think a DIY shop is a great idea. I did consider something similar offering an enclosure building service, but am really wanting to offer lamp/s for now as I think there is a market for my lighting strategy... and I like building lamps.
Can you/are you at liberty to explain your lighting strategy?

Sure. Utilize the advantages of DIY while still producing a retail product. At least one emitter over every foot of space is a good idea. All electrical components are underdriven except the fans. Efficiency is well within DIY territory though not 3590 low current range, but more important is the PPFD being over 800 on paper, in this case 850 after lens loss. I think the 800-900 range is the sweet spot between gpw and g/ft and as much as possible I want to provide that evenly across the grow space.

Agreed, and that does sound like an excellent foundation for a line of LED products.

@Rahz

It would appear you're following what you like/love doing, which is building light fixtures. Now that you're in a position of making a business out of what you know, what exactly will your business be offering potential customers? Obviously a light fixture but what will set it apart from others, such as PLC's CX300?

Sounds like he's talking about 1 cob over each square foot rather than 6 in a box or slipping and sliding around :P

Sounds like either mini W90's or huge, gigantic fixtures. Imagine fitting a twenty-five square foot fixture in a 5' x 5' space ... (:

I think what I will be offering was covered a couple posts up along with the post with the pic. How big/powerful they will be and how they compare to other lamps is largely addressed in the stats provided. Whether they are expensive or not is a matter of opinion, and while there is a premium for the features I don't think it's excessive.

None taken. Yeah I don't sell flowers and I get by with very little. Practicality, feasibility, and fantasy are all found in different isles in this market.
Ive seen your lamps. There super dope!!! But why bring a bad vibe onto someone else's lamp? If these diy style leds are whats going to be taking over bigger style grows, then big fixtures is whats going to be hung. Im probably wrong being you guys are the experts, but i just love when people venture out on their own and make money at what they love doing. Its totally exciting!!!!

You're good, man. I can't wait to see the test results!

@a mongo frog

Thank you for the kind words. I'm not here seeking to spread bad vibes but rather to distinguish a potential product from the rest, as more and more companies are now emerging and offering COB-related fixtures.

Bonjour
It would be great to find every part in the same place...
But like @benbud89 said I am in EU and shipping charges will be a problem...I really need to find the cheapest way to send "things" from California to France...which companies, quantities, price per pound...
Have a great day ★
