Just started week 3 of flowering

CFLs can be just fine for flowering depending on what you want from your grow. Most people want the most yield possible, but not everyone. Different people have different goals, and there is nothing wrong with not going balls-out your first grow.

It's also not a case of one vs the other. CFLs can work splendidly along side an HPS for supplemental lighting.

All I'm trying to say is watt for watt hps produce less heat and produce more light then cfls. Nothing else. Obviously I understand cfls will work fine if you don't mind spending months of work for an oz or two. I personally like to get more fruit for my labor. Apparently that makes me a fucking moron

i never said u shouldnt flower with hps.... hps is awesome cfls will come up short everytime in flowering.... im just saying that hps or mh isnt neccesary for veg...that cfls work perfectly fine...

i like vegging under cfls @24hrs of light.... in the open...since i only have one grow room and i use that for flowering.... i dont feel like hps or mh would benefit me at all... thats just more venting and what not id have to buy... i guess if ur vegging 10+ plants at a time cfls would end up costing more but for a small grow i think cfls are just as effective and cheaper to run in veg....

Notice the overall wattage of the scenarios

Wattage need to reach 50,000 lumens
1 400w Hps
Total watts 400 = 125 lumens/w
10 54w 4ft t5
Total watts 540 = 92 L/w
4.5 150w eco plus
Total watts 675 = 74 L/w
42 40w t12
Total watts 1680 = 29 = L/w

Never said hps was necessary for anything. All I stated was that it is more efficient, and contrary to what most people think actually produce less heat per watt. Just trying to spread the knowledge I've picked up over the years and these people got to be all stubborn like they don't want to hear anything that is contradictory to what they think they know.

Im guessing you bounce from forum to forum a lot
Nope not really I was a member of overgrow.com until they got shutdown. There I spent a lot of time reading knowledgable growers like Bushy older grower and stickyfingerz journals.
Since then I've been forumless until last Wednesday when I joined you fine people.
I've been growing since I was 15 I'm now 28. You guys can argue with me all you want but you might want to do yourselves a favor and listen to what I have to say. I'd be happy to answer any questions I can and look forward to being a contributing member of this forum.

i run 115w (5x23w) untill they get to big and my lower branches arent getting enuff light (usually around week 3 or 4 of 24hr lighting.... if im running more then one plant i add my 125w cfl to it....no fans no venting i keep them between two large house speakers with a 2x4 running across the top to support my lights....wall as a back no front enclosure....

If it works for you that's awesome. How many grow have you completed in this set up?

Not bad at all. What do you know about the genetics of that plant? Looks pretty good from that pic. I'll take some nice frosty bud shots tomorrow when the lights are off
