After extensive research...I cant decide whether to go with HPS or LED...of course the con with the LED would be the startup cost...I have read multiple people claim that anything larger than a 4x4 or so should be done with HPS...is this the overall consensus?

Thanks guys.

Based on those skimpy parameters.....NO

Unless you are growing for quantity and bottom line ...but if other parameters exist in the equation, it might be time to start looking at LED :peace:

It depends on things like how long you plan to operate, how much you need money right now, and the cost of electricity.

Chances are your best bet for an area that big is 4x1000W HPS lamps. If you plan to keep growing in 5 years and you have a ton of cash up front, underdriven cxb's start to look like a better option.

36 CXB3590s/Vero29s spaced evenly and that will give you a COB over every 20in x 20in area. If its just a flower room? 3000K. If its full cycle? 4000K
If your scroggin and just growing tops? you can get away with free air COBs,but if your a gangster and grow Redwoods indoors? You probably want decent optics IMO.
Meanwell HLGs or NPFs

Isn't a 20x20 stretching it for max production under a Vero29?
What kind of $$ do you propose to set that up?

3200-3800watts CXB3590/Vero29 for 10ft x 10ft area should be more than adequate
$6000 to $12000 depending on quality fixtures used?
Should produce 4000 to 5000g a run with the right strains/phenos?
Paid in full after 1st run.Ive yet to find a better ROI than that. Just have to have the dough for startup cost, then its double fistin the bubbly after that:smile:
A standard 10inch Intake/Exhaust with proper quality Fan/Filter will keep your flower area within operating temperature.

But that yields the same as 4 1k lamps. And you can buy that for a little over 400 bucks then get an a/c and be like 1300 bucks. Why spend 12 grand on lamps alone then another 800 on fans and filters?

Since a cxb 3590 3500ºk 36V CD 200W pannel cost in diy 350 $(max)!
4000w of it would cost (maxi...and because more you buy less you pay!) 7000 $ and will last 100000h and would give you in soil about 1.2gpw and you will save on a/c!
Have a great day ★

If the lamps didn't have any bells or whistles they could be very close to 350 each, though I would budget $400 for it, use EMI filters and dimming control. So $8000 would cover the lamps. This would create a light canopy of over 1000 PPFD which would blow 4000w HPS out of the water. I mean, it would just stomp it and rub it's nose in the dirt.
