What would be better for a small 3x3x6 vegg box. Im planning on having a couple moms and rooting clones in there. Or should I build a separate clone box ?

Honestly I like the idea of those cfl's on amazon because they are so cheap I think their under 50$ for the 250w cfl with reflector and everything but the hps is for sure more efficent watt for watt.

The only advantage a 250watt (actual) grow cfl has against a 150w HPS is you dont have to use 2k-2700k. Other then that the hps most likely has slightly more output at the foliage and much more output below the foliage vs the cfl.

the hps is rhe vetter choice out of the two.. if you want to go with cfl go with a lot of smaller ones, they are much more efficient than the big ones.

I'm curious about this LED unit on Amazon for $140, it looks decent for a small veg tent and most of the reviews are very positive... I need to step up my veg light, and in a 3x3 seems a little 2ft T5 would be kinda weak compared to a decent 100x3 LED...

Am I wrong? The T5 is cheaper I assume? But Hotter?

Edit: Sorry, I felt like I kinda hijacked a bit there lol.. I would vote for the HPS, IMO those big CFLs are so hot with such short penetration they just aren't efficient enough..

@hotrodharley honestly that thing on amazon looks like a rip off, chinese epistar stuff, I could be wrong, but I'd bet good money that I'm right. Keep in mind I'm only about to cut down my 3rd set of plants, I love cmh, I try to convert people to it because it kicks ass

So a 2700k would be a better buy than a 6400k?

Or even 5 60w CFL's? The combine lumens are 15,000 compared to 10,000 something according to Amazon at least.

Why would you do that if the hps puts out more while using less? A 150hps is like 15,400 lumens or something right? Dont be scared, buy the damn hps and go do your research of what different kelvin bulbs do.

I'm growing out of my closet so the hps is out of the question for me. I can't get good enough ventilation.

Bro,
150 hps watts clamped = approx 15,000 lumens
250 cfl watts clamped = approx 15,000 lumens
The differences are so minimal the only thing that matters is how you cool the lights. Its easy to have temp problems with cfl's too because instead of cooling a tiny golf ball surface area of 150watts you have to cool a room of basketballs at 250watts. Either way would work fine you just have to research your ventilation method. Cooling a 150w hps shouldnt cost more then cooling 250watts of cfl's. T5's are also a great choice but regardless, in a closet you still need to cool it down.

I hate when I think I find out what will work the best then I find something better. So in the end it just boils down to what you want? Since they both out out about 15,000 each?
