Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

There is one other main arg in favor of cxb3070 fitting this thread: with a 23mm LES it will fit on nearly every heatsink available for cpus or commercial track / down lights. If you are no fan of large aluminium profile like myself, 22-23mm les is the way to go.

Thanks @Greengenes707

I've seen this site (previously linked by you maybe ?), but gave up when not able to view any of the datasheets ..

They do have a wide choice of options and currents, interesting ...

... I sent an email :)
That was me!

Could not be happier with these drivers.

Very well built, extremely efficient. I have them on Vero's which is probably cheating myself a little but I am getting amazing results so far. :weed:

And there customer service is some of the best I have come in contact with in a long time.

That does not tell us much... How much are they with shipping?

Meanwell drivers range from $51-90 for the HLG185 series depending upon stock and purchase location. Could help us all if they turn out to get as good as you say and make things much cheaper for us all.

Haven't asked for shipping cost yet ...

High efficiency at max load, drops faster than MW HLG / ELG when dimming. But overall nice stuff ...

Please do, your data is invaluable and means a lot, to us all :leaf:

Any chance of new lens vs reflector test too ? Do you own some angelina's yet ? ^^

PCT does not agree perfectly with the specs in the data sheet and PCT is based on case temp despite that it says junction temp. That said, I do see a narrowing in the specs between the 3070 and 3590 as you increase current, but not a crossover. I would like to try and verify that behavior now that I have an Apogee and the correction factors I should be able to test this first hand.

Interested in these. Maybe I will pick one up and open her up to compare to the Meanwells.

Did you purchase one of those drivers? If so from where? There is no way to purchased from the site that sells them. I checked alibaba and ebay, hell even google comes up with next to nothing.

Gotta email the man ;)

toddtang@lsdpower.com

Hopefully he will help you out! Not sure how comfortable they are with small purchases though, most of their products have a MOQ around 100 or so. Just ask for samples if you can get a hold of him. He was very attentive and helpful.

These are NOT dimmable! for dimmable the model is LCA****
Price comparison with the dimmable Meanwell is hardly appropriate!

Are you talking about the 1000X165X35mm aluminum radiator from tme? (36.50 €...43 € vat included!)
If it is this one I split this one in 4 part with cxb 3590@1400mA on each...it gets hot so if you let it like it is and don't split it you will need a 140mm fan or 4 x80mm! Plus a 50mm for the driver!
Have a great day ★
how do you cut your HS?

Anyone see the new profile coming soon radial at hsusa? It's only 2 inches diameter, but looks like around 130cm per inch. A 3 inch piece would passive cool CXB at .7 amps. No word on pricing but I bet it will be cheaper per pound than the ebay radials.

My chinese lamps have a 10.5cm diameter heatsink, about 15cm length. The fin cut out offers about 1.5 times the surface of this new hs-usa profile, and they barely keeps 50W at 50°-55°C passive. Based on this experience, I'd say 2 inch is WAY under dimensioned even for 3070. The central shaft does not even fit the 23mm LES, so maybe for Veros 18, but nothing larger.

Could somebody please hand me the formula for calculating surface area for a heat sink?
So far I have just done this, but it seems too simple:
(Hfins x L) #fins + LxW
