Ok first let me explain that i am in the progress of obtaining my degree in computer programming. This is the basis for my idea (if it has not been accomplished already)

I was thinking about the process of completing a completely automated growing software system.

Sensors could be placed for everything including ph levels, humidity, heat, ppm, etc....

Using the knowledge of the "Perfect" setting for marijuana (or other plants) Has anyone experienced a setup that you could plug in the "Perfect" settings for growing enviroment and sit back while the software grows for you?

I figured that this would be nice for those that take extended vacations, or are lazy like myself :) :)

sounds interesting, but i am skeptical based on the fact that there are too many instinctual variables that come into play when growing. Then again who knows with this day and age:-) computers growing our BUDs lol.

nah,, needs a human touch,, not to mention i dont trust computers... it could be used in addition with careing for it yourself but it should not be the sole caregiver to your crop,, shits worth too much to let a computer to take care of... good idea though! the program would be simple to write but i think the problem you would run into is the mechanical means,,, sure you can tell a computer that when temp is greater that 75 to kick on the ac,,, or when the PH is at 7 to administer however much Phosphoric acid it would take to drop down to 6.2 or so.. i know there is a simple formula for calculation Ph changes (but i cant remeber what it is) but i woulod think it would take a little more than a computer programmer to change a computers action into actual mechanical actions,, you may need a mechanical engineer or staff for this one.

They already have computer automated hardware/software. It measures EVERYTHING, and corrects it as necessary. Huge water parks use them all the time.

do they have em for small scale growing like a mj grower would use?? I have been thinking about this for a while. It would be nice to be on the beach of the bahamas and be able to check on your grow room. Not only that but control lights, nutes, ph, etc. It would just suck if it malfunctioned. It would be cool to connect it to a minigun for intruders. It could be like a videogame...

It can be used for ANY aplication. Some places that grow professional gardens use the software versions, while the big parks and such use the hardware AND software. The hardware is used thoughout the parks and inputs the data to the main computer, but is independently controled for that one section.

Malfunction would suck yes...but if the power goes out, a few battery backups would lower the chances of something happening.

Arduino looks like its designed for this sort of thing.
it can most certainly be done, with the right knowledge and work

The best advice i can give you in my experience is LEARN THE LOGIC. Coding itself is not terribly difficult at first, but if you do not understand the logic behind it you will be lost in the sauce. Loops,if then else, etc.. etc...

a lot of prgrams about for fish tanks mate chekc out some of the marine kit

does loads ph, salinity, temp, auto tops ups of fresh water etc, very exspensive

I'm in the process of doing this, waiting on relays and some other parts based on what I pieced together from automatic sprinkler systems and other similar DIY projects. I'll post the completed setup if it all works..

I see this as really a side project to the growing though, and not a substitute for human contact with the plants, but then again I DO trust computers, or at least I trust that they fail in consistent, predictable (at least eventually...lol) ways.

I'm after a web type interface as well with real time monitoring and because I'm creating a site with similar interactive properties, I think I can adapt a huge majority of the code for this to save time.
