It's a genetic thing. Some strains wont really change much, some turn pink/red/blue/purple ect. It just depends on the pheno but its basically slowing down on the phosphorus. If you do something like pop 10 grand daddy purp seeds, then drop temps towards the end of flower, you'll get color from some of them if not most of them. You could always take a clone off each one (dont accidentally mix them up or it will be a 2-4 month mistake lol) and when you find the one that gives you bag appeal or taste whatever your going for, make it a mother plant.

The ice water thing is to make the plant think its dying. You do that at the final 2 days. It makes it throw crystals. So i have read and been told. My best stuff was grown this way. And the salt just brings the temp below 0. Which, idea is good, the sodium bath nay..

You will fuck everything up if you do it. Dont even consider it, and i would highly doubt anyone here has ever tried adding salt nacl to the root zone.

The best way to get that purple is cold nights or dropping the a/c down.
I grow outside the strain in buying is mostly sativa so I'm hoping it will get cold enough next fall and the other strain turned purple when they cut off the top buds
