This might be why music sucks and millenials are boring

Found this article this morning and though that it put a decent answer to a question I have been pondering.... Why does modern music suck so bad?

Yet another example of how monopolies hurt us.

The upshot of the essay is that the Telecommunications Act of 1996 removed barriers to radio broadcasting that resulted in a very small group of corporations owning most of the radio stations. The result of this has been the commodification of music and "artists" across the broad spectrum of music and art in general.

This has led to being forced to listen to Taylor Swift until her subliminal message of conformity and slavery turns your brain into mush and you end up buying all her perfume, jewelry and clothing line too. It is also why older people find you shallow and tasteless - if you are the quintessential Millennial.

"It seems that with the advent of the internet, and the seeming freedom and ease it could provide to get relevant music out there, corporations have gotten even more aggressive to keep people’s thoughts on consumption, rather than cultural and social change. And millennials are the ones most vulnerable because they have no personal connection to a time when music actually mattered."

John Lennon - Cool

Mumford & Sons (we’re supposed to believe they’re a rock band) - Not Cool

music today is an overmarketed, autotuned, predictable, tired, asexual bunch of skinny jeans raised on barney and american idol. and they are all selling something. wtf happened to bands that actually had a message? wtf happened to the utter disgust your parents would have for the shit blasting through your bedroom door when you were a teenager? isnt that the way its supposed to be? you can take your pseudo-post-punk intellectual folk bands with your "nerdy" sunglasses, scarfs, and fedoras and shove em up yer ass

The 90s were pretty good. I wish the clothing in the 80s wasn't so fucking bad. Hair too. We started to look normal in the 90s. We had not looked normal for some time. Sometimes I still think we look normal but spending the day in a Pseudo-hipster neighborhood (Wicker Park in this case) showed me that it is not evenly distributed throughout society. I cannot believe that there are still groups of people willing to shell out money for ridiculous fashions that have all the staying power of Hammer Pants.

I graduated high school in 95, what great 90's bands will people be listening to in 50 years?

Maybe Pearl Jam..maybe ..I can't think of another.
Bloodhound Gang?

Maybe some Sisco?

How about this one? Everybody loves this one. It replaced Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" - wait, no it didn't. Sorry, i went mental for a second.

I always thought it was "Let's Get Retarded"

I've been listening to this in bunches. I am hooked on it.
The more I listen, the more I hear.
I want to play with it, and colour it some more.
Is it music? Or something else?

How many people listen to disco, anymore?
Why would you want to?
Perhaps it is a new disco era. But the internet has made it open. Do you want underground marketing? You can get it at your local university radio station, broadcasting live on your beep-box.

I'm'a take you home
Take your passport and shoes
And your sedatives, boo.
You're the flash in the pan
I am the great I AM.

(I'm a Blackstar)

I can't answer why
But I can tell you how
We were born upside-down
Born the wrong way round.

In the villa of Ormen...
