Just to come back to that eternal topic...MarsHydro...

There are worse companies than MarsHydro, far worse...

Yesterday I had on another forum someone asking about a grow light "Masauwu" "180W" growlight with "real 3W Epistar" OMGZ!!11 chips. They sell it on amazon for €215.

It has your standard 60x3W Epistar LEDs, so it's worse than the MH 300W 60x"5W" and even worse than the older MH 100x3W. The best thing is not only the ridiculous price for this sh!t, but also their claims this light has 23000lms and 875PAR and that it's suitable for flowering 1,2x1,2m from 80cm height. Ridiculous.

They advertise this crap as if it's the best grow light ever "not a cheap light from China but quality!" while using the same Epistar 3W chips like the Marshydros which you now can get for $65 or so shipped. Just saying.

Edit: It's really sad if you realize that not all growers are that much into LED tech like some folks here on the forum. The average Joe reads those descriptions and of course they believe it, they have no way to double check whether what they read is true.

The commercial LED light industry seems to have modeled themselves after car audio to a tee. Remember those 4000w amps and 1500w speakers? I almost felt like laughing every time I talked to a salesman.

Luckily the commercial LED industry has smaller companies that care about what they sell. Optic Grow Lights is one of them. It's exactly like doing DIY except you have someone else build it for you.

Please don't bite my head off any one but I can't really read all 400+ pages of this and honestly, the answer today may be different from back when this thread was started. I'm growing in a small area. It's approximately 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet. The ceiling is only 13" right now due to my weak lights but it can be moved to achieve 4 feet of height. Would a person run just one 50 watt COB and move the ceiling to say 36 inches to allow a little more verticle space? Any ideas, suggestions, help would be much appreciated. Or should I run 4 lower watt COBs, I just don't know lol.

PS, I'm fairly handy and have soldering tools and a little experience with electronics from my rc car and PC and stuff.

Have an optic 120w and an a51w90. The optic does run hotter without a doubt. Very warm under it but still run 78*F leaf temp at 15". It gives off a lot of heat and is probably the warmest led I've seen since an original blue Lumigrowl. Both the optic and a51 are high quality build but the lunch box Optic case is bubble rusting in several spots. Metal cases from China are not clean when sprayed and even leading brands have this trouble but not like the lunch box. A51 always prioritizes cooling. Seems like Tasty and PLC do also.
Both my lights work very well.

if that's what you want you should go for tastyled. much better cooling system.
I don't have the option of ordering from a US led company, not one that makes good quality anyway. That $500 or $600 USD light turns into $1000 after exchange and shipping/duty etc. I can order Vero 29's for $36 cdn each so I'm thinking DIY is not only the best option, but my only option since I'm the type of guy that won't order a Mars or similar product.

oh!

I assumed you were seriously considering an optic system.

2.25 sqft. So 30 or 40w per sqft means one vero 29 run at 80w or 2 cobs of whatever run at 40w each, 3 cobs at 30w. I guess it depends on your budget because you need to power and cool all the cobs too.

1x CXB3590 for your area (0.209 sqm) would be about 580-600ish PPFD which is on the low side. Moving the light UP would not make things better, in fact it would make things worse since the intensity of the light decreases with distance - same as with a low W light. You also want penetration down into the canopy and not a light which is "borderline" and cannot get down to cover your entire plant. So two COBS would be MUCH better.

Other people in these forums are keeping the lights at 12"to 16" @50w, + or - depending on if/what lenses you use.
Yeah I'd like information on how lenses intensify the lights because I use lenses :) For now, plants look fine, I dont see any light burn. Distance 11-17" (different height plants in my green house) WITH lenses. Lights driven at 1650mA.

You paid 1.5k extra to have bud that buddy... looks like garbage... Taken with a 2 dollar kodak? What kind of hillbilly has a camera like that.

Thats not a scrog, or the person who did it doesnt get the concept, but nice colas.

2. Thats some nice fluff to the right of some normal looking bud to me.. Heres some PPP we get off the STREET where Im from. View attachment 3595565

3. Theirs no argument on how much you paid vs what you get. You overpaid by 50% min.
I am so sick of certain individuals talking sh!t to my boy @REALSTYLES. The dude has personally helped a bunch of us build high end grow lights using Cree COBs. Its gotten to the point where I am starting to think these sh!t talkers are Mars-light employees or own the company's stock. This forum is about sharing ideas and exposing whack products like them Mars lights. So I am personally glad @REALSTYLES is putting us up on game about the poor quality of Mars' products AND their customer service, especially when compared to what WE can do with COBs like the CXB3590.
