Power Consumption?

Hi all new to this forum, hope this is the right place to post.

I am thinking of using a 400w hps light, but i am worried about overloading the circuits.
the question is would i be able to run a 400w light and still be able to use electronics like my pc etc without it blowing up or causing a power outage?
i currently have a
ps4-im guessing thats around 400w
desktop pc-400w
also running a 3 ft marine tank-probably around 200w-300w
i only have one powerpoint with 2 outlets(6 outlet board in both of them) if that makes any difference

thanks in advance

Depends if it is a 15 amp or 20 amp circuit normally at 15 amp you are looking at anything below 1500 watts can be pulled continuously safely..

Your PS4 pulls a max of 150 watts.. However, you have a TV right? :P

If you have a light bulb in the room you can remove that and use whatever wattage the plug is rated for normally you can get another 600 watts out of that if it is ran on a different loop..

So, in some houses you will have a single drop or multiple drops for the outlets then sometimes another drop for just the light outlet in the ceiling...

figured i was off on the wattages ha ha good to know its only 150watts.
yeah ha ha i have a 42 inch hdtv, soo i am pretty much safe though?, just don't wanna burn the unit down lol

If your TV is at 100w, PS4 150w, Desktop+Monitor = 450w, Tank 300w + 400 watt you are 1400 watts which is close to the line... I would make sure you get the correct wattage because depending on efficiency stuff normally needs to pull more watts than is required... You are suppose to only use 80% of the 15 amps continuously which comes out to 1440 watts...

Also don't forget the light fixture if that is on a different loop :P However, you can only use upto whatever the light fixture is rated for... So, if you have a light socket in the ceiling on a different loop that is rated for 600 watts for example you could unplug your light and run it from there just make sure the fixture, and converter plug can handle whatever you put in there and it is on a different loop...

I will reiterate am not an electrician... With that being said... I think you should be good... :fire:

cool thanks for the advice,Oh yeah completely forgot about the light lol that'll be running 12/12. I will probably unplug the ps4 and take down the aquarium to make sure ha ha.ill also found out the correct wattages for my electronics.

I think you are ok, however better to be safe and run within safety parameters than have a fire. The fire department, DEA, FBI, border patrol, homeland security and the neighbors come and check it out :P Then before you know it your doing anti marijuana ads on PBS for a sentence reduction or being deported :P All because you listened to a guy online you didn't know who went by Astro Aquanaut :P

at first I was thinking 1500w?,you can run way more. But then remembered you guys don't run 240v like we do down here :)

Well it is basically to 120's broken out from 240 at the breaker at every house :) So.. If you have control over your home breaker etc it isn't a big deal to run 220/240... I didn't even think to ask the poster about what area they are in... Normally language style is a tip off...

I have a 400W bulb for vegging and a 1000W bulb for flowering. I don't have any problems as long as only the light is using that fixture. I've blown fuses trying to use that other slot in the plug.

Good luck, BigSteve.

yea aus,
sorry didn't quite get that?, 80 amp and 230 is the max?
Safety is to only use 80% of constant usage... So, if you have 16 amp fuse in 230 (12.8 within safety) 12.8*230 = watts... So, you are good to role...

Looks like in the AU you guys use 230 then houses use a mix of 10 amp fuses, and 16 amp fuses, so you will need to verify how many amp the fuse is for that drop... However, even with 10 amp fuse you are still good..

230 is pretty awesome to have :) However, paying 80k for a 50k bmw sucks... ;)
