im 2 weeks into 12/12 right now using the 4200K

when would be a good time to switch to 3100K

think im either close to or past the stretch phase

where did you get that info? i have yet to see a par footprint test on the phantom. mine pull 349W at the wall, i dunno about the sun systems power draw. i assume both are driving bulb to same spec

id buy 2 315s over a single 630.

better/more uniform coverage

also the phantoms have remote ballast and can be aircooled which is night and day compared to the sun systems designs for heat

cant imagine it would be.

even though i dont have glass and vents on my LECs now... its also february.

the phantoms have like 5 year warranties on the ballasts

unless the sun systems magically put out 33% more lumens youd be hard pressed to justify another $100 for a unit with less features

Probably not since sun systems source their ballast from the maker of the lamp, Philips.

and who builds the guts for the ballasts for hydrofarm? could be philips as well. in anycase the manufacturer of the bulb making the ballast has zero relation to whether teh different ballasts drive the bulb to proper spec

actually the hydrofarm ballasts are multivolt unlike the sun systems

so another feature advantage to the hydrofarm.......

The only other thing I can point to is the reflector. Since the reflector is such a crucial part of useable light, perhaps the sun systems reflector is that much better? I have the SS but I won't argue dogmatically it's better. Just curious about finding the details on best value and best performer.

Someone growing for others or on limited budget may want best value. Someone who wants to grow connoisseur-level marijuana will likely shoot for the performer. And maybe there is no difference between the two?

yes but everyone is assuming that because the sun systems is more expensive, it is better. ive seen zero basis for anyone to say one is better than another

had you thought about a signal going through 12 foot of wire acting like an antenna and not making much sense being remote in the first place.

My hydrofarm Phantom DE rides right on top of my sun systems ac/de hood on a rail. I could make it remote but I chose to run as short a cable as possible and that happened to be nothing but the hydrofarm type to SS adapter, no cable between them at all. Do you notice the newer fixtures and how they don't have a remote ballast?
Good for no signal lose due to a cable,if a cable is involved the shorter the better. And I'd think this even more with the 315.

no i hadnt. other than the sun systems lecs and the gavita warehouse fixtures

sell me on length of cord and its effects and i will weigh it vs:
-extra heat dissipation of a ballast inside my tent
-the fact that i have to hack a sun systems lec apart and void the warranty to make a remote ballast
-the fact that with the sun systems i am married to 120 or 240 for the life of the fixture
-the fact that the sun systems has no provision for cooling vents or glass lens
-the fact that the sun systems is $100 more

To each his own I guess, I'm looking for a kit to outfit the luxor(sun systems reflectors, hydrofarm dropped the ball in reflectors)with a 315 agro elite and have no choice but to run the ballast remote. Hydrofarm may be a option in ballast but not reflectors. Did you see that lame attempt at a DE hood that actually cooled the lamp hydrofarm came out with?

Gavita/DE's...2.0µmols/j running 1000= ~2000 µmols
LEC 630...1.8µmols/j running 630w=1134µmols

76% more light with the gavita(just about any DE) over the 630 LEC system.

For almost half the cost of the LEC too...plus the DE has overdriver(1150w).
