What do you think is the best distance from bulbs for the beginning?

What is the distance I need to put my plants from CFL bulbs on the seedling stage if I want to do a scrog later on?
It won't be a problem if I put the plant 3 inches from the bulbs?
The temperature reach 28c degree if I do so,
But I told that I need to do so if I want to grow on a pc box.. I'm not sure what to do
What do you think?

have to do an scientific test . its called the hand test. no not the horrible hand test from the doctors ! .put your hand under the light if its not hot that's how far you put the light to the plants.

usually six inches is good with no heat issues but I always turn my hand and test with my palm

three 5000 k cfl bulbs that are 800 lumens each and they are a foot away and the plants are happy. Don't make the mistake that I made by using too powerful a bulb.

Don't listen to Ryan, he pours mt dew on everything. Even eats his cereal with mt dew instead of beer:roll:

If you put a 600 or 1k light 6" away you'll fry the tops and have a shitty ass footprint.
I can put my lights 4 inchs away from a 1000 hps it all depends on how cool your room is I didn't get a single burnt tip leave or anything ever plus I got tons of airflow its not even possible for it to get hot and burn in my room.

Seedlings don't need much light, but to far away and they'll stretch so you can start out high and as the first set of true leaves start to get bigger, you can start to lower the CFLs until you're around 4-6" away by the time the second set of true leaves are in. My .02¢

Theres the right way and then theres the bullshit way. Putting your hand under a bulb to see if its hot or not has absolutley nothing to do with light energy and lumens. Each seedling, plant and stage will require a certain amount of lumens ! Use a light meter is the best way, scientific way and what a pro horticulturist will be more concerned with.

Any other way is just trial and error, normally error! You wouldnt put a seedling 4-6inches under a 500watt cfl reguardless of wether its hot or cold so i have no idea why some completely avoid the real question which should be 'how many lumens does my plant need'!!!
