The far red thread

Got my xpe far reds, gonna make (2) 6.5' bars with 7xpes on each. Going to try digital timers to sync up the lights off with the far reds. For those of you that run far reds at lights out, have you seen a noticeable difference in yield, should i be switching to 14/10 to get the most out of this effect?

Are those the solder less model with "you choose" wire lengths from rapidleds.com?

Bonjour
How much did you pay for it?
I am about to buy some...the same thing but in 1000mA (maybe 700mA is enough but I want to be sure...!?!)
It is for a 4*4!
I was thinking 6 @1000mA would be enough!?
Have a good build!

Nice idea with the one LPC. I'm gonna use 3 LDD-1000's for 3-36"Sq tube fixtures with 3 a piece.

Bonjour
Are going to put 3 diodes on the same "hs"?
I thought we were looking for the better spread possible!!?
I guess it is more effective to use mono alone to get the best coverage possible...
Or maybe I miss something...but I believe coverage is more important than intensity with 730nm...but if you prefer to have more diodes...!
And I guess you don't even have to light all the plant...a part is enough!?
Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Absolutely man each 36" Sq tube will have 3 diodes at 2",18" & 34". And I'll make 3 of them.

Is the square tube an advantage somehow over a 2" finned aluminum sink? Just wondering I'm gonna make one as well and I'm ready to start a parts list.

Thanks fellas.

If I may chime in :

I think you guys are really overdoing this coverage thing (with far red) ..
It's been stated that even if only part of the plant receives far red, it will trigger for the whole plant.

Plus, if my memory serves me well, plants have a high rate of reflectance/absortance towards far red, meaning a lot of it gets thru the leaf, or bounces off, so it ends up reaching more parts of your room.

Just my 0.02c

Do you think this would cover my entire 8x8 area with the 14 leds?

It was under 100$, and sounds like 6 would do. I was just trying to cover a 4x8 area but sounds like i might have built enough to cover everything. I havnt finished my light yet, just waiting on some thermal adhesive to finish it up.

I think 3 36" with 3 each totalling 9 will be great for a 4X8

Finally had a few minutes to finish this this thing. I wouldnt mind building another bar or two like this with some xpe2s in 620nm and some uv. Soderless is the way to go, much less time to assemble, only had to solder the dc side of the driver. Whole light is 24.2watts.

How did you fit the wires through those small holes. The connectors come off?

you could mount the 620 + uv on the same bar with another driver.

I've had the far reds going for ~15 days now and one thing I've noticed is the smell pouring out of the cab when I've had a peek to check up on the FR's. It's smells like opening a jar of damp leaves or something, very pungent and noticable.
