Germination and more

Questions about germination, what's he best sized rockwool cube to use for the buble buckets? Also, with the exception of the ph in the water, what other nutrients are recommended for the germination stage?

Thanks

I never use any type of nutes when germinating. The seed/cutting root in search of food and this process will slow down drastically of food is easily available. Just water.

You can start them off in the smallest cubes and cut them into larger cubes as needed.
Rapid rooters work great too and they can be placed into a block of rockwool or any other medium used in hydro once they've established a root system.

thank you, appreciate that. If i plan to put these cubes into large bubble buckets do you still recommend using the smallest ones? I can buy 1x1 , or 1.5x1.5 or 2x2

lol I don't even know the size I use.. I just know the size when I see it… I'd guess I've always used 2" I'm pretty sure… you're germinating seeds? Soak cubes for 30 min prior to use, don't use a dome (I see people do this and I was guilty of this at once point but not necessary and you don't want droplets of water falling onto freshly sprouted seeds) I do clones or seeds with a ph'd water of 5.6.

They probably don't make a size that's too small lol I suggest rapid rooters, never read a negative thing about em vs rockwool. Rapid rooters are only approx 2"x1"? I wouldn't say size is that important above that, the roots grow down and hang in the water and the stem grows up and turns into the plant, no need for a huge seed spot.

I ph at 5.8ish basically in the 5.5-6.5 range is good but you could germ in the 7 range i don't know how important that is due to that reason. And no nutes are needed, the seed holds enough on its own to germ, even for the first couple weeks it will be fine with no nutes. I start my water with 100ppm of nutes though just outta habit, keep in mind it may take up to 2 weeks or so since planting that the roots will hit the water to even see those nutes.

I used to use the 40mm ones. But got sick of rockwool. Mainly because I had a hard time cloning in them.

Now I just wait till the taproot gets big by germinating in a plastic bag with wet paper towel and then placing the seed tap root down in a 1/3" thick neoprene collar and into a 2" netcup trimmed so its just a sleeve pretty much.

Those sit in the lid of a 5 gal bucket and inside the bucket is a pump piped up to a S shaped spray pattern.

I also have a cooler sized cloner.

Guys, what are your thoughts on using the Aero cloner / germination station to complete my first three or so weeks of veg? Should I apply the nuts then once I have rooted th seeds ? Also, if I do decide to complete my first couple weeks of veg in my aero cloner, what are you thoughts on utilizing a light ? Not only for the veg state but also for germination ?

I've seen a grower here use an Aero station for up to about three weeks. Fantastic results he has gotten, but u fortunately Idon't jnow much about them.

As for the light, well some people use cfls for germinating then switch to whatever they want later on, but you can safely germinate with a MH/dual spectrum/hps bulb, you just have to keep the light furthur away not to kill them with the intensity.

Interesting, how high should I keep the 1000 watt led above the aero cloner while the seeds are germinating? And then how high once they've rooted and I keep them there for the first 3 weeks of veg ? Thank you

Oh crap I have no experience with LED panels... but I'd say you can keep the light higher than usual and if you notice some stretching going on, then just lower it. Keep lowering every other day until you get to the desired height. But I'd wait until someone with LED experience chimes in.
