any1 in UK selling 400w HPS?

i know its just hard to understand how people argue over it when ive been doin this setup for a long time and ive had no problems theres the proof no burn outs no fires no drama timings perfect and londener i just sent you a link yes its a timer capable of 600w as it says it only costs 15 quid and works a dream im sick of people telling me how it wont work when it is and has been dont argue when you dont run the setup

no its ok, i wanna be safe. i only have a normal house hold, normal amp rated 7 day timer so i wanna see if i need to buy anything else. i dont want my shit settin on fire, or even worse, the house with my gf and child whilst im at work.

has to be 100% safe.

i know ur saying it is, but even if there is abit of doubt id still like to know about it.

i appriciate both of ur help. just trying to figure out this kit.

yes, u have a 600watt timer. i just have a standard UK plug on that i used for CFLs so ill have to upgrade my timer

you MUST use a relay?contactor.

i dont know what they are?


basicly, if i buy that kit and the correct timer with a surge protector(already got one) will that be ok?

if i cant get my head round this hps stuff tonight ill have to ask the guys in store, hopefully he can help me make my setup fool proof

do that they good man but i can seriously recomend that setup you only need a relay if your gona run more than one light if you buy the single lamp timer then thats that u plug it straight into your standard 3 pin plug socket abd ballast into timer and hey presto theres light when you want it lol im just trying to help dont mean to come across as a arogant twat but i just get riled up

YES i see the link, that is a contactor/relay built into a timer, its not just a timer, the standard timers are at the top of that page, that type of timer you need a contactor/relay, what you are using is a contactor/relay, you said you plugged it straight into a timer alone, and you are plugging into a contactor/relay+timer all in one unit.

sorry my friend you need a contactor for any single and multiple hps or mh. you are already using one and didnt know it, thats where the mix up is coming from.

what it is, if you plug yr ballast into a an ordinary household timer then into the wall socket, when the timer comes on and starts the hps up, the initial high start up current from the hps being pulled via the timer causes the timers contacts to fuse together because they are not able to take the load and they literally melt together, and at best your light will stay on, disaster during bloom right, and at worst the timer could completely melt down and ignite, now the contactor/relay diverts the current away from the timer and through the contactor which has contacts able to withstand the load, so in short, the timer turns the contactor on, then the contactor turns the hps on and the contactor takes the load instead of the timer.

im with u. i understand now. i need a new timer anyway, the one i have is 7 day one and each segment is 1 hour 45 mins and it sucks because it doesnt add up to 12/12

i cant say a size coz im probably wrong. its a decent size though.

i dont wanna drill holes in the shed or anything so gonna have to work around it. maybe make some fake walls or somethin. havnt figured that out yet

yea ideally u want another timer, a 15min segmental mechanical timer or a digital timer, that timer/contactor/relay all in one unit that likestogrowbud linked looks good especially if its just for one grow because single light 1kw(smallest)contactor/relays are around 25quid+a decent grasslin household timer say a tenner youd be lookin at 35quid where the all in one unit is 15 i think it was, but personally, i prefer my seperate timer and contactor for long term use because should a problem arise i can easily diagnose the fault by isolating the seperate components from the circuit. and my contactor is made by eco-technics, a huge lighting equipment company with a great safety record, (peace of mind with my kids n mrs in the house) i dont scrimp on any electrical grow equipment.

do you mean like a standard outdoor shed? i take it its outside yea lol? you`l have to extract that heat out some how mate, its gonna mean making intake and extaction holes somewhere in it, no way around it really.
