Another CXA3070 grow in coco 321...go

I hate when that happens! There have been a few I didn't know were as good as they were until it was too late to clone them.

I've had really good success with clones so far (I rarely have one that doesn't take), but I think I might be doing it an odd way. When I top plants, I make a clone from the top I cut off. The more I read here about other people cloning the more it seems people are using lower branches for their clones. Do you know what the advantage of using lower branches is?

they root faster

Thanks Bobby, I'll try using a lower branch next time.

NapalmD, I don't recall -- what were you using before? And why do you like coco better?
its never too late to clone,if your chopping down a plant and wishing you took clones, take one from the bottom right then.it will root fast, but i will also take some time to reveg.but you have that plant again.you can also just leave some small branches on the plant at chop time and reveg the whole thing.
i have better luck with cuts from the tops.new growth roots faster in my setup.

It's funny you guys say they root faster. The clones I took from the Blue Dream in veg all rooted nicely in 8 to 12 days. The lower branch I cut from the flowering KK is at day 11 now and not a peep of a root sticking out yet. But I've heard just the opposite with taking a cut in flower, that it can take 2 weeks or longer. I'm not throwing in the towel yet though.

If you really want to see fast roots take a cut in flower about day 7 and root that cut in the flower room.7 days it should be good ta go on most indicas ;)
Every strain has its ups n downs.i have a picky keeper that is a bitch to clone.cuts from the bottom seem to work better on that plant

I was in promix bx and chunky perlite before this with Jacks classic and blossom booster.
The coco is just way easier all around and seems more forgiving to me.
I also went from 3 gallon pots with the coco to 2 gallons and I think I'll be sticking with them. Even more control and faster growth and more space if I want to stick another plant or two in the tent.
The feeding is as k.i.s.s. as it gets.
Unless your growing trees there's really no need for bigger pots with coco imo.

Day 70
Pulled the KK out last friday.
Pulling out that little Underdog Urkle tonight and will flush the Blue Dream for another week and pull her out next Friday on day 77.
The KK thew me for a loop. My first assumptions were dead on, it dried to a light, lanky, small airy budded POS.
It is tasty and potent though as I thought it would be but all those small dense nugs weren't dense at all after the dry and the trim that I thought would be easy was horrendous.
Just waiting for it to settle at 62%rh and I'll weigh it up, prob a little over a zip of smokeable nugs and 30 to 40gr of larf that I didn't finish trimming good.
If the clone of it takes off I would like to run her mini tree sog style.

BD saves the day!

Day 77
Blue Dream going dark tonight for 72 hrs and chopping down monday.
The Kandy Kush yielded 62 grams of smokeable little nugs and an equal amount of larf which I could probably clean up to get a few more grams but I'll just give that container to the ol' lady to pick at.
The BD will be a nice yielder. Solid dense buds.

Hi Napalm, cool stuff as always! you also have a 4x2 tent, right? im just about to put my lamps together, I just need the wires and arctic silver tube, and importantly, the tent. do your tents carry the heatsinks without any issues? and do you think that this 4x2 would support 2 40" long heatsinks at 5-6 kgs each? again, terribly sorry to bother, I hope you can help me, though. thanks

Thanks buddy! I do not have a 2x4 tent just 2x2.5' gorilla tents.
My sinks are 20" and fairly heavy and the gorilla supports them just fine along with a 4x12 phresh filter and 6" hyperfan.
Not familiar with that tent you posted but it looks like a secret jardin which should have the metal corners as well. Shouldn't be a problem but maybe test it out first with something of equal weight hanging in there for a few hrs just to be on the safe side and so your not testing the weight limit with your new lights.
I also strongly recommend pk3 thermal paste over the arctic. I have used both and the pk3 is far superior for mounting cobs. http://m.newegg.com/ProductList?keyword=pk3&InnerKeyword=pk3 compound

Next round gearing up. Just topped them yesterday right above the 4th node which is the lowest I've ever topped before but I'd like to attempt a true scrog this time.

That BD is letting me know that this tent is big mamas house. I'm gonna have to take a bunch of clones from her as soon as I get these 2 pots out of there and decide if I'm gonna keep her after I smoke her. So far she has everything going for her. Flower times a little long but I think I could take it down to 70 days because she started foxtailing throwing fresh pistils out around day 71.

And that little Kandy Kush cut I took a week prior to harvest. Cups filling with roots but nothing much going on above ground. Just gonna stick her in a 3 liter and flower her out with the Fire 99 and 3queens.

I popped the top on that untrimmed bin and it was more sticky and stinky than ever so I trimmed it up quick, by hand and got another 35gr out of it for a total of 97gr of the Kandy Kush. Not so bad after all and this bin I just trimmed is more stickier and smells a little more pungent so if you can cure with leaf on, do it. It's like opening a candy wrapper. I may try it with the Blue Dream drying now.20160518_132524.jpg
