Got 2 free plants!?

So one of my buddy was growing 2 unknown strains. He was growing them under led lights. He eventually couldn't grow them anymore so he handed them over to me. My question here is I think he topped way to soon? I only uploaded one of them because both of them are similar in size. Tell me what u guys think?

You can top at any node you wish too, most people wait til at least the third.

These look like fine young plants, care for them and they will love you in return.

I've never seen mites like that. They are at least 10 times the size of the mites I've had in the garden before. And the yellow belly is quite different too.
