Keeping your plants healthy is the best, and first defense against molds, bugs, and other things that my hinder your plants
development.
You can find beans that are mold resistant, as far as recommending an over the counter mold inhibitor, that is quite hard
as there are so many. Just read before you by, some I know can be toxic to the consumer, if used to soon.
Pesticides have come a long way, if you have to use them they offer a full line of organic stuff, and I say "they"
because again there are so many options to choose from.
Good Luck, and have a great day:peace:

Thank you. Yes a concern of mine is smokeability without hurting your health. But i imagine just because a fungicide is organic doesnt necceserally mean its safe to smoke. Yes? Really i wanna hear from expert outdoor growers in my area or my type of conditions on how they prevent mold and pests.

Mold can be tough in new england if it gets rainy in the end of the season. Make sure you have a spot that gets real good sunlight, that will help buds evaporate excess moisture. I had some bud rot a couple years ago and all I could really do was go out there every day and remove the mold myself

Do not plant your plants too close together :)
So that when in full bloom, you'll have some (any) gap between them, their branches not crossing and mingling.
Tying branches down in particular directions can adjust for any mistakes of this sort.
I use wire coat hangers I've straightened and turned into hooks.

More mold worries = increase gap between plants and/or branches = more airflow around buds = less mold

I like to grow a wall of long, flowering grass in season, to hide my plants.
Unfortunately that lowers the airflow around my plants and increases mold outbreaks.

Neem oil is always a good idea IMO. I'm doing my first round of outdoor too so I'll be following along for any gold nuggets I can pick up ;)

I live where its wet and mould is an issue. There are many ways to keep pests out of your plants without using pesticides. Just because something is organic doesnt mean you should consume it. Mother earth news gives you several options on how to keep bugs out before you have a proplem I.e. put a pie pan full of beer out and slugs and pill bugs are drawn to it and die (happy).
As far as mould yes buy a resistant strain. After a good rain...I always go and shake the shit out of each branch to get the water out of the buds. Ive never had a problem since I started doing that.
I know many people do use organic pesticides and fungicides but...please read up on it before you think of using it.

Also, don't be like me and look for sativa dominant strains. Start outdoors in the NE with a good strain that has a short flowering period. There are plenty of great choices out there. Next year I'm going to try out Dinafem blue cheese. Also, one thing I've heard that helps is to make sure there is no vegitation aroudn the base of your plant because of the morning dew. Anyways, good luck. Growing outdoors is a guessing game where mother nature has you by the balls and there's only so much you can do, so strap up and enjoy the ride. :bigjoint:

Try some light dep or autos if you can, and you can have it wrapped up before mold really becomes a worry

Yes indeed growing outdoors is a real hoot. A lot of blood, sweat, and fears. Fears of the weather, mold, insects, rippers, and cops. It's a double edged sword for sure and very fulfilling when you pull off a good grow.
