first soil grow and scrog

Starting my first grow this month from seed (Northern Lights and Bubblicous). Using a soil grow, probably Fox Farms Ocean Forest, General Organic Go Box for nutrients. I have a 2.5'x2.5'x5' grow tent, with 400 HPS/MID bulb set up, 400 cfm inline and carb scrubber. The lights and carb scrubber take up the first .75 ft at the top of the tent, so I anticipate the plants won't be able to grow more than 3' tall to not be burned by the light.

Current plan is to germinate 6 seeds, 3 of each, then to solo cups then grow in 6" pots, once they overgrow 6" transplant to 3 gal smart-pots. The smart pots are 10" circumference, so I was planning to eliminate two weakest of the 6 plants once I move to the smart pots, as I assume 4 is all I can grow to maturity in this size tent. Plan to run it as a SCROG and hope to top at least 2-3 times.

Questions:
1. How high do I set up the SCROG?
2. What height should I flip from veg to flower?

1) 6-8 inches above soil

2) this answer will vary, depending on size of screen and how many screens per plant. But usually you want to fill the screen about 50-60% full before flipping

Welcome to RIU, and the wonderful world of cultivating the world's most misunderstood and feared medicines!!!

The only 'advice' I can give you or anyone is to read and learn and then apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail. Anyways, remember the search tool is your friend...Lots of folks here willing to help a new farmer get up and growing. But at the end of the day your grow will be only as good as the knowledge and work you put into it.

It is always great to ask questions but do not take anyone's advice or opinions and follow blindly. Do your own research, you will be much happier knowing you have done it for yourself and by yourself. The first buzz you get from your own budz...is by far the BEST high you will ever have!

Do a search using your current question as the keyword(s) and ZOOOM!! Like Wonka's Great Glass Elevator…off you go to tons of threads answering all your questions. Read all the Newbie Central stickies and learn…

After that you are a seasoned vet. Because to soak up all that information and sift through it, is going to take time. You will likely finish your first grow by then. Viola! grow complete and education well under way.

Just curious...why use a different nutrient set then Fox Farm since you are using FF soil? Have you studied both products and know how to feed appropriately? You may want to do a search on Fox Farms...you will get about 1,000 pages or so but if you skim through them paying attention to the ones where the growers are having issues with their products. This can be invaluable...you can learn what not to do and simultaneously what you want to do.

What I'm working with right now

So that's just one plant in a 2.5? So four is way too much in your opinion? I was largely thinking four in order to lower my risk of losing one plant halfway through....

No it's a 2x2x4..... I have about one more week of stretch left and my plant is already touching the side lol.

If you plan on keeping all 4 I would make the pots a little smaller. Or if you set on 3 gallon pots I would do 3 plants max. Maybe even just two. You have to consider that the plants will be fighting for light and overlapping eachother.
