If it's to hot for your back palm, its too hot for your seedlings in my opinion.

my hand feels ok at about 4 inches got a fan blowing over the light aswell

Hey RM...you are the man so I am not doubting you. I use a 150w cfl for each of my seedlings placed about 1" to 2" from them...never had an issue. And a believe cfl will run hotter than a T5, not?

I start em under a 15 watt LED and then once planted they go under a 8 bulb T5 that is 3 feet off the canopy. Been doin it for years
