If all your needs were met, what would you do with your life?

Exactly what I'm doing right now. (Which seems to be a popular answer, glad to see we're a happy group).

A year ago, with our union contract about to expire, the corporate VP's came to all the plants telling us at captive audience meetings that we were making too much money and had excessive health care benefits. I refused to remain in the meeting...I asked the VP how much he was making...he said, 'this isn't about me.' I then told the VP he could go fuck himself and that I hoped he choked on his greed and that I quit. I walked out of the meeting and immediately filed retirement papers on the spot. 17 others followed me out that day at that meeting. 200 followed within a month.

Then the company locked out their entire union work force for 7 months, hiring replacement workers and security people...for more than they were paying us.

For 7 months the wife and I went to rallies, wrote editorials, wrote for the union paper, got our pictures on union websites, disrupted company stockholder meetings, had everything printed and generally worked for the union for free, and helped influence the outcome of the labor dispute...the lockout ended, the union ultimately lost nothing other than slightly higher medical deductibles. It was nice to win one for a change.

In the middle of the lockout, I hired several locked out employees to help me with a remodeling project and had a 5 man crew for a while...since they went back, I work with my cousin and a young college kid out for the summer.

I work on the project all day...and try to make it fun. We take breaks, get high, go to Lowe's a lot, play loud music all day and people stop by frequently to say hi and ask if they can put junk in the dumpsters.

I have a fat 401K because I was able to look ahead...and now I can take out extra to fund projects like this.

Life is good...I work for my family now instead of a CEO making $50 million a year who didn't appreciate my work ethic or skill level...and they have to send me $4000 a month because we had a good retirement contract that they agreed to. They tried to cut it with their lockout...but they didn't count on us sticking together like glue.

When this project is done, I'll find something else to do. I always do...sitting around more than a couple days isn't my style.

I'd start a record label and only sign bands I like. Produce our own records/merch, manage our own tours etc. Use the profits to help out homeless kids, ACS, NAPC, FNB and all those other cool acronyms. In my off time I would invest in a serious prescription drug habit, and teach myself to golf.
Golf is the best way I know of to ruin a perfectly good walk in the park.
