Theres to much talk about these L.E.D grow lights and the same questions are always being asked.

Post your thoughts on y there good and bad and lets get this discussion over with.

Pros: compact, cool, provide enough light for some plant growth (small plants), and have both wavelenghts blue and red.

cons: BULL$H!T claims on power ( doesnt even touch Hps or Mh ) Too expensive. Doesnt seem like light even spreads enough for major plants...bummer

The problem with LED lights is that people that want to know how people think about them never do a search on if people have talked about them before. This is about the 6th dam thread that has almost the same exact Title even. So please. go to search and search LED. We have already had long discussions on the LED light.

You new people should try and read more and ask questions less.

HPS/MH/CFL are technologies that are much older, and you're not asking for an end-all discussion on their values, or advantages over other lighting methods. So if we're going to continue talking about OLD technologies that everyone knows about, why stop talking about new technologies that could be made to be better?

Just my two cents.

I hear what you are saying Growtech,
But this has already been argued with threads that were like 30 pages long. Most people agreed that it is to new of a technology, but that it will most likely have a good use per dollar in 3-5 years.

They have had a little scientific study on it though. With the LED versus a HPS the LED produce way less yield, But the yield per dollar of elect. used was higher. Not sure about the quality of bud though..

Well i started this to actually have people put facts that others can use to weigh out their decision, unlike what your doing, and im not new, i go on this site repeatedly and am sick and tired of the people who try and post this topic but end up with alot of people who get angry and mutter on about how others shouldnt do this thing instead of giving that person solid advice so they understand and dont end up having a 30 page long thread, this goes to lord dangly bits and sb101, peace overly hot headed stubborn dudes...

Well Panda, maybe if you had done a search on the LED lights you would have found those other three threads that had tones of Data on this and that about LED lights for growing. So maybe you should go read those threads so we can finally put this dead dog to bed. LED lights work, if you want a smaller yield, but with more yield per watt used. AS SAID BEFORE.. Read the other threads on LED's, if you have been around so long, you should have seen one of those threads.. THIS DOG HAS BEEN BEAT REPEATEDLY... Lets move on... LED'S SUCK!!!!! But most of us agreed that in 3-5 years they might be worth useing.

my hydro shop did a test run with the ufo's to see if they were even worth selling. A couple months later they returned the ones for testing and didn't even bother selling them at the store. They said there is no comparison to HID's, maybe in 5 to 10 years...

What about making a lamp out of a dome-shaped item covered in LED's?...something the size of an oversized strainer or something like that.

I also use CFL's for my vegging, to save on the power bill. I can get some very nice and bushy plants with a 4' t-5, and one 43 watt cfl per plant, 150 watt equiv.

I didn't read anyone elese reply but, the growing scene is pretty competitive so why are you going to buy something that is going to take years to make up for the loss in yeild. If you don't have the power to grow it is probably best left to someone that does.

This tech needs some work. I will mess with them when they can produce the same yeild as a 400 or 600. I know they say they do. They put out the same amout of lumens but everywhere I read it seems like they come no where close in yeild. I don't care it you are a commercial grower or not, every gram counts. If you are growing a nice but low yeilding strain are you going to wait 2 months for something much less or go for the gusto and do it right?

There are proven results that we are competing with, even if just growing for yourself. You are going to need a house full of these'ufos' to produce what one or 2 REAL lights could. And if you are putting your neck out there to grow anyhooo...........

Panda, What are you smokeing?? I WANT SOME!!!!!!

We were not talking about LED's. We were taling about t-5's and CFL's. There is a guy in here you might want to PM though. His name is Munch Box. He uses LED's for side lights on his grows. Or at least he was talking about it and started doing it. As far as if he still does it.. Hmmm. I do not know. Hell I still have the UVB light from the discussion we had on the benifits of UVB light and Trich production. When we discuss a lot of these issues, usually someone tries it. You can figure if there is not a big wind storm on chatting going on about these items,, most likely they do not do worth a shit. This is why it is good to search out these so called new ideas.

Go to page (3). Post #22. You have to remember though. Since there is a more powerful HPS light above, a lot of the light spectrum will not show from the LED, even though it is really there. You would get a better idea of it if he turned off the HPS light.
