I have a 4 plant untopped mess.

Do you think yield will be hurt by cutting off some of the fan leaves blocking other bud sites?

Some people go crazy removing all leaves and still pull off massive yield. Personally I prefer not to. But taking a few off here and there shouldn't hurt. Do a few per plant at a time.
BTW your hatvest comment made my day!

Leave em all on hat vest guy. Sure they wont die if you take a few off, but why the fuck would you? Plants grow leaves for a reason and the reason isn't so humans can rip them off.

Don't ruin those beautiful girlies, they look stunning bruv.

When I'm growing in a tent I am a big fan of defoliation....tearing off fans is a delicate act and could be a major stress to some strains...others never notice and spit out more...I usually don't defoliate long running sativas either, but I will rip some kush plants to shreds with no ill effects...depending on how well I know the plant dictates the way I grow it....if I'm going for giant chunks I'll strip it down to its 4 best branches and STRIP everything off below, and any that may be blocking bud sites, a lil extra work but it has always paid off...i like those buds that won't fit in mason jars and all :D

Those big fan leaves are energy powerhouses for those undeveloped buds. I tuck bigger leaves out of the way to let more light in. Some monsters down low I will remove but only if they are near the soil . Leaves down In or near the soil are collectors of mold or rot and other shit I don't want so those I do remove.

This is what I've always thought. I think ed Rosenthals book taught me that. It seems that alot of people are defoliating though. Then I see a little bud site not doing so well and I want to rip off a leaf....

Well, personally up until my last grow I never did much defoliation. This last time I did a Scrog grow. I lollipopped all vegetation that was under the screen and not getting any light. It did not hurt my babies at all.

I've been thinking lol, and I guess I do sort of a little in round about sorta way kinda maybe do a very almost non existent sort of lolipopping lol. From this picture you can see the plant in the foreground does have quite a bit of the lower "frass" removed. But I do not remove any of those big fat juicy green leaves up higher, these get the tuck.IMG_20160513_174424.jpg
