What does 23watt 100 watt equivalent mean?

It mean efficiency as compared to a regular 100watt bulb.
( FEINT ELECTRIC , ECOSMART , ECT. )
- Outstanding energy efficiency - provides equivalent light to many 100 Watt incandescent lamps while using only 23 Watts of electricity
- Outstanding life - 10,000 hour rated life is five to ten times as long as most incandescent lamp.

Only for a seedling -
I run 1 5000k CFL to get the seedling started .... For maybe a week then i double up until it has a few nodes ...
Then run 12 CFL in a hood ( 8 5000k and 4 2700k ) MIXED SPECTRUM .
For flowering i FLIP the mix : ( 8 2700k and 4 5000k . )
I also add CFL reflectors for side lighting and lower growth.
CFL CAN AND WILL GROW GOOD BUD -
Note : this works WELL for AUTOFLOWERS because they only get so big.
Around 3-4 foot average.
I like the lower heat and power requirement ( i do smaller grows - 8 plants at a time ).
I also do LED GROWS but during summer months i can grow with CFL.
FOR REGULAR STRAINS - I would recommend a better light system
( HID ) or at least ( LED ) because of better canopy penetration. COB BUILDS is also an option.

Thanks man i really appreciate the break down. This is my second attempt at a grow and wasn't sure about the amount of light. To give it, it seemed to be doing well. I started it in a small fish tank cabinet really small about 2ftx1.5x2. Just bought a small tent and its 2x2x3 moved her in it today. What do you think?

A lot of people don't appreciate the 5000K CFL and seem to think one can only use 6500K & 2700K.
I notice you don't use any 6500K...why is that?

I start with one 23w 6500k , then add on 5000k, then eventually 2700K
The 5000k is great from start to finish

I think your girls look very nice. I used t5's, and my girls are doing extremely well. plus the heat advantage is wonderful. If you are every wondering if you need more light pick up a lumen meter. I got this one off amazon and it definitely helps with making sure all the girls get enough light.

Nicely done with the CFL's this was a recent project of mine as well! Mostly proving you can get a nice healthy veg off a few cheap CFL's.
I FIMed these at about 4"-6" tall, and low stress trained them to bush out more evenly. After about 3 weeks I made a make shift tomato cage around it to scrog the plant out a bit. About to throw into flower this week with a 600watt HPS
