IS IT TO LATE TO TOP??

Okay all my plants are clones from a mother. I have allowed them to go pretty tall without doing any type of topping. I am in week 4 day 2 of vegetation. I need to know if it's too late to top and if not how and where... There's a bunch of nodes on each plant and so it seems like maybe I could clip them in several different places?? 1466438468326717848377.jpg 1466438529617-48146065.jpg 1466438591367-1466428794.jpg

Its not to late, but its always better to start topping at the beginning of veg. Around 10 inches is a good time to top from what i have read... As long as you are in veg its okay to top at anytime from what I understand, however its best to wait a week or 2 after topping so plant can recover.
You should top the MAIN cola.
Heres how to top
There are many other ways to top a plant and many videos to show you how.

BTW if you top in many areas of the plant, you will obviously get many new colas. This does sound great, but your plant can get very messy depending on the strain. So make sure to be very calculated on where you top. Try to control the growth in order to have a organized plant.

I was under the impression that the stems that got cut were the ones between the fan leaves and the base stem.... the ones that have those little delicate hairs growing on each side of them.... am I wrong?

Although... if it takes two weeks to recover then I don't have that much time I only have 4 more days before I begin flowering. If I don't top it will still create a pretty decent yield right?
I have topped clones before and put them into flower the next day with no issues as the first couple weeks or so the plant stretches a lot, some more than other strains... In my case it really didn't seem to matter when I topped or put clones into flower the stretch was huge...

Ok and the video that I just watched literally just hacks off the top of the plant. The tallest point of the plant just gets cut off at any random spot. I thought there was a specific spot that you had to cut them. So am I only cutting the main stem the one that goes from top to bottom? Or am I cutting the stems that are branching off of them that have those little wispy hairs at the bottom?

nikki I'm a newbye like you, on his 1 grow, let me tell you something, read the vocabulary/slang terms thread, it's the 3 sticky thread, everyone here use that slang :)
LST mean low stress training, basically you bend the top of the plant to allow lower branches to get more light and catch up
happy growing

No specific spot you cut the stem it will branch out from there. Tilt your head slightly and look at a shoot you will notice if you chopped the shoot off and held it straight it would be another mj plant. Chopping a stem between two nodes anywhere will make it branch out.

Okay I almost had a heart attack but I cut my plants in a couple of different places. I took the peak of each of the plants off... I also went down and trimmed a couple of stems between nodes. And then I stuck them in dirt... LOL I feel like maybe there's more to it than just sticking them in dirt??

Dirt can work for some strains but not very many. If you want those cuttings to root you can put them in a glass of water many people just use that alone. I use a bubble cloner which is a small fish tank air pump with a small air stone in a light proof container with a bunch of holes. Doesn't take many bubbles or very much water. Cold water holds more oxygen hot water kills stuff.

I use well drained potting soil mixed with a little ewc in a solo cup and nearly strike 100% on everything I've tried cloning. When I'm topping for height control like you were I normally cut the main stem close to the level of several branch tops. Topping this way really helps to level out your canopy.

make sure you wait to flower.
and from the look of the plant, i'm not sure why you want to do it anyways? (the topping)
not criticizing you, just curious what your goal is.
I have some ideas I have used for yrs, a couple different techniques.
as far as cloning via soil, I have little success in that regard

You can top the plant anywhere, just chop it at the height you want it. If you want to be a successful grower then I highly recommend reading all the sticky threads in the grow sections of the forum and then branch out from there. Read up on lst and fimming too, all really useful techniques to know. Read, watch videos, and ask questions. Good luck with your grow :peace:

What's lst?? Lol sorry I'm new to this
light stress training. its something i always do to my plants. i will try and post pics, but basically its pretty simple and easy but you must start from an early stage as the stems get stronger and thicker it becomes harder to bend. With LST you simply bend the branches down and tie them to the side of the pot they are in. this allows light to hit the branch and you will notice you start to get new growth now right our of the branch you bent down. its a great way to increase yields and maintain shorter plants. Also there are several other ways to add "stress" to the plants to increase vigor and flavor. You can simply go to each branch, not fan leaf, near the stem and pinch. You should feel and hear a cracking sound. Be careful cause you dont want to break the skin of the branch at all, just a pinch to hurt the branch. this creates stress and the plant reacts incredibly. the branch will get even thicker and increase flavor in the final product. there are many ways to stress the plant and they all have their own benefits.
