Roadside saliva test coming for toking and driving?

“Right now, the police only have a limited behavioural test they use,” Murie said. “There’s very few officers trained to do this. And basically the public knows that and they feel fairly confident that they can — especially young people — smoke pot and drive.

“They also perceive that they’re safer driving under the influence of marijuana than alcohol.”

The Criminal Code needs to be changed to permit an oral fluid test on a driver suspected of drug impairment, and the government must also establish legal limits for drugs such as marijuana and cocaine, he said.

And....? Wouldn't those behavioral test be enough to determine whether someone is impaired or not? A saliva test is only going to prove someone smoked weed, not their ability to drive.. Even if they were to measure thc levels, it wouldn't prove impairment. More idiots who have never smoked a joint beaking off about shit they know nothing about. If the cop suspects impairment, from any substance, a roadside walk-the-line, count backwards from 100 type test is the only real proof.

Well...train some more. What an absolutely ridiculous excuse.

I was in a car accident 2 months ago. I have lasting concussion symptoms and back and neck pain. Im constantly in a fair amount of pain , im stiff, im sore, im confused and it hurts when i concentrate or have to think about more than one thing at once.

I can't work and the only way I can drive myself out to see my doctor, to get treatment, to see the people representing me in the legal side of things, is if I have something that can reduce that pain and stiffness and help me focus.

The pain relievers my doctor prescribes eat holes in my stomach even taking half doses half as frequently, I save them only for the extreme symptoms and even then im using them alongside cannabis.

Long story short im in no shape to be driving sober. the medication i get prescribed, that I cant really take, also can cause drowsiness and it is not recommended you drive on it. my only option is cannabis or no driving. I live about 15km out of town, driving is a necessity.

all the best.
you'll find that MJ is an incredible replacement for tons of pharma crap.
after a while, the effects don't hit you as hard so driving won't be an issue-from my own experience but I am a heavy user.

Not sure how experienced you are with cannabis, but I might suggest edibles. The effect comes on slower and is longer lasting, with a body stone rather than a head stone effect. Many will say this works better for them... Start slow, effects can take up to an hour and last for hours. If by chance you do ingest to much, drink some orange juice ( vitamin C and sugar) and relax , it will pass. Plan your day so you are not driving when you are trying edibles and learn what will work. Eaten the night before the medicating effect are still there somewhat the next day but you would be clearheaded if you needed to drive in the earlier AM.
If unsure get a friend to drive you to be safe. Oh , and watch out for drunks - they kill people.

Thanks for the replies, doing dishes and jafro. No advice needed here though, I've been medicating since long before I had any symptoms to alleviate :)

What i really wanted to get across is the fact that i legitimately need to be high to drive safely at this current point in my life. It's complicated composing myself enough to type this out right now but if I hadn't just smoked a bowl it would be near impossible.

Cannabis makes it so I can sit comfortably, move my head and neck to survey the road, it makes it so it doesnt hurt my head when I have to decide between making that right turn or staying put at the light etc. so if there were a law in place that made it so it would be illegal for me to drive high, it boggles the mind. It's almost the equivalent of a man being court ordered to only drive drunk.

I used to be able to drive just fine sober or high. The headaches I get from the concussion are unreal though. theyre constant, but they intensify in waves throughout the day and when a good wave hits me my brain turns to slime. thinking feels like walking through a bog. i don;t even mean that metaphorically, I mean the actually act of thinking and deep focus physically feels like im walking through a bog.

I honestly think a roadside saliva test would be the worst thing imaginable. you get pulled over for having a taillight out for instance, the cop smells weed and administers a test. How does this prove you were impaired? you were pulled over for having a taillight out. The only time this test should hold up at all is if the cop pulled the person over for driving recklessly or swerving. if a person is visibly impaired, then the current chemical makeup of their neurological soup should come into question. If a person seems to be just the same as anyone else on the road, they just happen to be an experienced cannabis user...

and this is another thing, I have to get shit on for having this opinion. I have smoking and non smoking friends and family members and only a very small amount of them actually get it. it's very hard to be able to say "actually cannabis doesn't really impair you at all if you're an experienced user" because the stigma surrounding it has everyone defaulting to "oh this kid is a drug user, he's lying to justify his use, he's trying to feel better about, he's an outlier and doesn't know the whole story, brain is clouded by the"

People respond very well to fear, or do they respond very poorly to fear? depends on whos doing the scaring. if its the powers that be than its most definitely the former.

Until such time as they come up with some arbitrary number to indicate someone is "over the limit", the only test is a roadside walk-the-line / count backwards routine. If you are able to pass that, you are not impaired. Unlike alcohol where all they have to prove is you're over .08, with cannabis they need to PROVE impairment, imo.

That test only detects an enzyme that your body gives off when you ingest cannabis. Fat cells in the body give off these enzymes for 30 days or more for the average consumer, well past any feelings of euphoria. Makes no sense. This is not booze.

someone should strike a committee to study this...lol...
I am conducting a study right now...cough cough, I will get back to you soon.

Currently I am studying some skunk /massar ( study this too much I tend to have a nap after).

Later today I have some White Widow that looks like it may need further study too....

I find my work is never done - oh the humanity !!! Often when I am studying my eyes get red from working too hard.
