Growing under a bed (dont laugh)...

So I built a custom cab with a few goals in mind.

1. Fit under a bed
2. Completely sealed (no smell leaking)
3. Quiet as possible

I feel Ive come at least close to achieving these goals with this setup.

Lighting
Custom made water cooled heatsink
59 LEDs @ about 260w putting out 20k+ lumens

Cooling
20gallon cooler that can be filled with ice that pumps cold water through a radiator behind fans in box.

The actual growspace is roughly 22"x22"x6"

So, what do yall think? Any questions or comments are welcome!

And what would you say would be a good take from something like this to make it worth it? Just curious of everyones opinions.

One LPC-100-1050 pushing 5 royal blue and 10 ~5000k xm-ls. = ~50w
One HLG-185H-C1400A pushing 26 cree LEDs = ~175w
One APC-12-700 pushing 4 deep red LEDs = ~9w

Youre right, the actual draw is about 234w, but I can squeeze another ~20w out of the HLG-185 once it fill up more of the space which will bring it up to right around 250, so......

That's pretty cool. I personally don't trust my electrical work and would probably in up Turing that bed into a BBQ.

OK! one thing i can suggest which might have never been done before. Because this is such a low flat space, what about if you could get a piece of large perspex and lay it over the top of the canopy. That way the plants will be forced to stay low. Would be interesting to see how they grow.

Unfortunately I was limited to an average bed height, which is 7 1/4 inches which leaves about ~6 inches or so of actual vertical grow space... tight I know.

OK! one thing i can suggest which might have never been done before. Because this is such a low flat space, what about if you could get a piece of large perspex and lay it over the top of the canopy. That way the plants will be forced to stay low. Would be interesting to see how they grow.

In the pics you can see the screen rolled up on the back wall. That gets unrolled and stretches the net all the way over the grow space and it can be adjusted to different heights as needed. I also am considering using velcro strips to hold down the plant if it comes to that.

As it is now the weight of the plant is enough to keep it growing somewhat horizontally, and I occasionally bend the top back down to stretch it out a bit. Bushy doesnt begin to describe this plant.. Being so close to those LEDs to start kept the node spacing incredibly tight. Its a little over 3 weeks into veg and is between 5-6 inches tall(sideways) and is on its 13th set of nodes.

Yeah, this is more of a test anyways(its not under a bed). But if I slimmed down the cooler or stuck it somewhere out of the way its looking like its working well so far. But Ive had to make some pretty major adjustments to the setup along the way. I bet I have over $800 sunk into this little experiment of mine so itd be really cool if it simply works.

I will say Ive learned a hell of a lot about LEDs and cooling micros and feel my next project will incorporate it all to a whole new level.

Not sure what you're using for pots, but you could cut a whole in the side of the pot and grow them out of the side. You'd still be able to water from the top but could LST them flat out sideways.

I saw a commercial rig setup cylinder style wthe has lights in the center and the plant on the inside wall of the rig. Growing parsley or something

Yep, thats my setup. In the pic in the top the bottom there is the "pot" so to speak. Just a DWC with 5 holes cut in the side with the plants growing out the side under a net. That is connected to a reservoir which in total comes out to about a gallon and a half. Probably will need to water often towards the end.
