Timber growlight question

Roll It Up LED section - "Where lighting and fighting are one in the same!"

I remember when I bought my first Timber light a couple years ago....I was excited to come here and share my enthusiasm about it...next thing I know, the "welcome wagon" came out to greet me. I was even accused by one of the moderators of being a shill from the company trying to generate free advertising! So don't feel too bad, @HydoDan! You're not alone!

I remember all the local "experts" knocking the wind out of my sails, telling me to watch out that my house doesn't catch on fire...the efficiency wasn't good....the lenses were horrible...the COBs were going to blow out...basically I had purchased a bomb and it was just a matter of time!....desperately trying to find a way to disparage the new light/company....When that didn't work, one guy even tried to accuse Timber of coming here and stealing his DIY design!...I mean....it was crazy shit, man! But I just tell myself that most people who are growing their own weed are likely getting the best weed...and then smoking so much of it, they begin to hallucinate and start getting real paranoid and shit ;)

Anecdote...I bought a house in Seattle a few years ago...I could have saved a lot of money and just got a plot of land, harvested the trees on it and built a log cabin all by myself -(like that guy on the PBS special)...but I didn't want that...So, I bought the house I wanted in the city...and paid a lot of money for it...Some might call it getting ass-raped....lol....That's the way it is sometimes. You sometimes pay more because you have a reason to do so...Sometimes you pay more just because you have the means to and don't give a fuck about saving x amount of money. Sometimes you just do it because the one you want has a red, shiny button on it...ya know? Who cares? lol! :)

Anyway...it's clear what's going on....just sit back and enjoy it. It's part of the landscape here! :)

There is a fundamental clash here between people who like to actually tinker and see true DIY as a no-brainer. They pride themselves, and rightfully so, in their ability to save money by doing a damn good job of it themselves. Anything else is just wasting money. Honestly I'm this way about building computers. I used to think that people who buy a branded PC are stupid posers.

Then there are people like me in this space who I feel represent Timber and Cutter's audience a little better, who aren't as talented here from a technical standpoint. While we'd love to be, for $100 extra bones it's just an economical impracticality to not go with a nearly fully built kit considering the time it would take me to elevate my skills to the point where I can shift to the above crowd.

I honestly think a new market category should be defined called Modular LED Kits or something. It isn't DIY however the true beauty lies in their modularity, simplicity, and flexibility unlike what you get with panels.

A panel is a serious commitment in many ways. DIY's learning curve may not make sense from a time management, compitence, or general interest standpoint.

What if one wants panel like simplicity and support but DIY flexibility? You land in the middle. In the modular space.

@tstick Thanks for your words... I didn't realize I stepped into a blood feud over what is diy and what isn't. I just expressed an opinion in favor of Timber. Honestly I don't have time for immature thoughtless people and will refrain from further posts. I will return to lurking in the background and let others do the fighting!! I'm to old for this shit. Not sure about this younger generation! Just because you disagree doesn't mean you have to be disagreeable..
