Timber growlight question

I remember when I bought my first Timber light a couple years ago....I was excited to come here and share my enthusiasm about it...next thing I know, the "welcome wagon" came out to greet me.
A couple of years ago???
Try ~ 8 moths ago when you first got it in hand. Not even close to a year, and straight up lying to say 2 years.
https://www.rollitup.org/t/what-is-the-proper-way-to-post-an-independent-product-review-here.891219/
And you started a "review thread" about it before ever using it...might help explain your welcome wagon.

8 MOTHS ago?!?!?! HAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, I guess I got it around Thanksgiving of 2015 now that I pull up my receipt...Oh well, seems like a couple years ago! What respectable amount of progress for a company to make in such a short amount of time, huh?

My review was just meant to show off my new light -nothing more. So I got overzealous in my writing....I was excited....big deal. There wasn't a need to pile on about it. Everything I had said in my review was born out in the first grow, anyway. I posted the pics...even YOU @Greengenes707 gave a 'like' to some of the pics I posted! :) And now, many people have made purchases from Timber and everyone seems to be very happy about that....well, not everyone, obviously! heh heh.

Put some oil on those welcome wagon wheels, gents...They're starting to get worn out! And watch out for moths, too! ;)

They just resell stuff from Jerry. You can get it much cheaper from him. Timber is just basically reselling Jerry's reflectors / other parts and doing some very basic assembly.

Research is right. Parts for that kit only run ~$300. You're spending an extra $200 for them to just plug in some basic wires.
4 pcs Cree CXB3590 TOP BIN COB LEDs (3500k and 4000k color temp choice)

4 pcs Ideal 50-2303CR COB Holder

4 pcs Ideal 50-2300AN Ledil ANGELINA Reflector Adapter

4 pcs Ledil ANGELINA 90 Degree Reflector

4 pcs Ledil RZ Diffuser Lens

4 pcs Cooliance Black Anodized Aluminum Passive Pin Cushion Heatsinks rated at over 90 watts of power dissipation each - drilled and tapped with hardware for easy installation to your frame

Pre-wired Potentiometer dimmable to 10%

Meanwell HLG-320H-C2100B dimmable power supply with waterproof interconnects for safe and easy installation - connected to a fused 10A power cord for safe operation

If you can find all those parts and shipping costs for $450-$500 you would be lucky....

In order to make any profit you would have to buy in bulk orders.

How many other COB based lamps have you used or even seen in person?

@HydoDan I think some people want to "build a wall"...to try and "make (RIU) great again!"....They feel it's necessary to use "extreme...EXTREME vetting" on new members/companies...

...new product, new member = terrorist

...initial review of a new and untested light fixture = terrorist plot

...driving a COB harder than 50 watts = building a bomb

And you better be prepared to show your birth certificate when asked, too because if you can't prove you were born here, at RIU, then you're going to be deported!

Just trying to make sense of your overzealous enthusiasm.....

Since you admittedly dont know anything about how to construct a luminaire, those that do are trying to figure out how you can tell a good one from an overpriced pile of dogshit.

"It feels heavy and the guy on the phone was so genteel, I've never grown anything with it but this light seems great."

These are the kind of useless "reviews" that draw an air of suspicion in a community of folks who actually build the lamps youre pretending to evaluate.

You shoot holes in your credibility further when you lie about how long you've owned the product.

Just give it up. Piling on the hyperbole isnt going to take away from the fact that you are at best a bullshitter, at worst some rich jackass who got a timber reach around and wont hesitate to return the favor!

@tstick Thanks for the warning I'LL get my birth certificate ready for examination..lol I just wanted a place to share and learn. I've been growing since the mid 70s have tried every light you can think of. Started with 2 - 40 watt growlux bulbs. Hydro: dwc, flood & drain organic soil, inside, outside, sog, scrog, lst. In other words I've grown a lot of weed. But some people think I'm a shill for Timber when in reality I am a terrorist plotting against the Chinese!

The only COB fixtures that I have used are Timber. I have researched several others online -going back to the Optic fixtures and pretty much going through all the commercially available brands I could find information on. It's difficult to get around to actually see a lot of the available brands "in person" because most of them aren't available at the corner garden center...and I'm not sure what advantages seeing them "in person" would provide that online research couldn't provide, anyway. There's lots of videos on YouTube of lights being tested and reviewed right out of the box...no grows to back them up or anything...lol

It seems to me that if you are buying a good fixture these days, then it's likely to have pretty much the same component list from brand-to-brand -namely Cree CXB3590s, Meanwelll drivers, Ledil lenses/reflectors. Beyond those basics, it's all just frosting on the cake insofar as what kind of chassis or frame that you mount them in...what kind(s) of switches you install...etc. -whether you plan on spraying them with a garden hose or not (lol!)...etc. You can, therefore, deduce that any lights with these same components will probably facilitate good growing results -everything else considered.

Yeah, maybe I was overzealous in my first review. It certainly wasn't my intention to hurt anyone by being excited about my new light. But I paid for my "crime"! I ran the gauntlet! lol
I made a mistake to say it was 2 years ago. There's no need to accuse me of being a liar for that -like there was some kind of underlying evil intention to it. What possible benefits could I derive from getting that information right/wrong? I made a mistake. I just rattled off "...a couple years ago" without even thinking...my apologies.

I like the look of the Timber products and I like the customer service. Lots of people have come to that same conclusion over the last 8 moths...
;)

It is the credibility of the critics that is in question, now....

Will someone please explain the differences between a Cree 3590 and a Cree 3590? Both from China bought by Americans! lol Just because you disagree doesn't mean you have to be disagreeable..

Why not save some dough and buy the chinese product directly from the chinese?

Clearly you like paying someone $20/heatsink to apply TIM. At least it's an American applying it?

Maybe if you had the foggiest idea what goes into assembling a kit you'd actually know what it is that you are paying for.

Same here...I started growing plants under fluorescent shop lights back in the 70's! Then, onto HID for years and years...

Well, if no one said it already...Welcome to RIU, man! It's good to see more of us old-timers! :) Most of the people here are nice. The others usually make themselves known right away....*sigh* :)

I know exactly what I'm paying for. They do all the machining of parts that I did for a living for over 40 years. I really don't care if I ever see a drillpress, tap, milling machine, shaper or lathe again. Hell, if I was cheap like you I could have milled my own heat sinks. What does it matter to you how I spend my money? Take care of your own affairs I'll take care of mine. Just because you disagree doesn't mean you have to be disagreeable..

@tstick Thanks for the welcome! Seems like we're battle buddies in a ridiculous fight! I came here to learn but I've never walked away from a fight! lol Just because you disagree doesn't mean you have to be disagreeable..

Hello @DonaldsNugMachine

I saw your post and have to caution you on your disemination of incorrect facts.

We are not resellers of Jerry from Kingbrite. We do not use Jerry's reflectors - all of our optics come directly from the LEDIL factory in Finland.

We only use Cooliance heat sinks - they are custom drilled and tapped for us by the manufacturer.

We get our Meanwell power supplies through a master distributor in America, and our Cree COBs generally come direct from the manufacturer.

Your "markup" calculation is very incorrect and wildly inaccurate - I will not comment further on that.

Please do not post things which are untrue as they are misleading to people who are looking for knowledge, not only about Timber products, but LEDs in general. It is a very fast moving industry and the subject matter can be confusing - proliferation of lies/incorrect information helps no one.

Regards,

Dan

Get your facts correct, people... Couldn't agree more that when folks just make things up out of pure ignorance and press it forward as truth do we fail to come to complete understanding!
Dan and the gang at Timber are the absolute best at providing knowledge and custom products without the hard sell tactics you find at most grow shops... Pure professionalism, unbelievable results, fair pricing and honesty are the attributes that set Timber apart from the rest.
