Cooltube= AWESOME!!

I picked that up, but its still just a 1/4 step away from a cool tube.
(can't yell at him for calling it a cool tube when missing the one side. Its close and you can impose the missing part.)

But if you take a straw and plug one end and try and suck threw it, it is not going to move any water or air or anything. But he says it dropped his temps. So he must have the second vent ducting there somewhere out of sight.

Either that or his temp gauge got moved lower in his grow area.

OR, maybe there is a little gap around his socket that allows some air to enter. But I would want it to at least be down lower to gather cooler air. Then have two more vents, one blowing air out from up high, and another one blowing air in down low.

Maybe he will enlighten us.

i believe he is sucking air from inside the grow room with a fan that is out of sight ... not the most effective way since the air in the room is warm. i think once the second duct is inplace drawing fresh air thru that tube it will really make an improvement on his temps

Well thats if the room is sealed (I just skimmed the post. Like the idea, saw the skinny 150W had to chime in. Still want that bulb! Even though got the 400W now. Good for other endeavors, like seeds!)

Using a cool-tube or hood as a vent ain't the best idea, bit not horrid either. Room air is less then inside the 'tube' So as its drawn across/through it will lower overall. Granted nor nearly as much as 2 separate systems. one for lamp other for room (which is nice for CO2 or other play-things) Its nice to have tins isolated. But on the cheap/easy/simple what he has (as I think, for whats that worth) may not be so bad.

And yes, good measurements beforehand and after really help!

Here's where I got the plan: DIY Cool tube

You can see what the open side of mine looks like. A number of folks go this route for lower wattage HPS. It really does help temps. I was able to lower my light to within about three inches of the canopy, and the temp still stays below 85. It peaks at 84 on the hottest days. Avg. temp being 78-80. I have since hung a PC case fan at the open end, blowing air across the bulb, which has reduced temps even further. Now that I have this set up, I will slowly put together what I need for a 250, or maybe even 400. Before I step up I'll finish the cool tube circuit and it'll be a REAL cooltube!
